One of the TV stations around here ran a quiz programme the other day to test one's knowledge of motoring law in this country. One of the questions asked was whether one is obliged to wear proper footwear when driving, especially in summer. Whilst this is not specifically the case, one can run into problems with the insurance if one slips off the brake pedal without wearing shoes, thereby causing an accident. During the ensuing discussion on the topic, I learnt that it is not illegal to drive a car in the nude in Germany and one cannot be fined for creating a public nuisance. The reason given was what one does inside a car is treated with the same protection of privacy as in one's own home and there is no law which states that curtains need to be drawn. The mind boggles.
