    attaching an aerial

This may be stating the obvious but have you switched on the booster and got the connections at the booster right. We have a 2003 sterling eccles jewel and I had to label the co-axial cables at the booster to make sure I had the right ones plugged in for the status aerial and then the external...

    Broken down?

I have noticed a lot of comments about break down cover with a number of different companies. (Red Pennant, More>Than, RAC etc)the comments mainly relate to cost which whilst important is only half the story. What has been your experience if you have broken down either in the UK or abroad. I was...

Hi Dave - it was me who had the problem with the powrtouch rollers. Powrtouch were great new rollers were sent immediately and an engineer came to fit them. He had never come across this problem before and I've used the powrtouch a couple of times since with no problems. powrtouch live up to...

    Caravan Theft

I take the point raised by Mike H and tonye about travelling with the hitch lock on and accidents. (It never occurred to me!!) My worry now would be forgetting to put the lock on when we pull into a service station or somewhere for a quick break. Incidently the key to the hitch lock is always...

    Alarms

Any thoughts on the best alarm to fit to a caravan? I'm looking at the 2002 Concept KEL caravan alarm and the IDM 4. Both are around the same price of £170. My insurance company has no views. (I'll get a discount on either.)I can see advantages on either so any comments will be appreciated.

    4x4

Angie - have a look at What Car they have reviewed most models. They only give 2 stars to the Santa F'e and 4 stars to the X Trail. I have an X Trail and it is great both solo and towing. If you go for an X Trail go for the diesel better performance and residual value.

    Caravan Theft

How big a problem is caravan theft? I have just heard an appeal on local radio about a guy who had his caravan stolen from the side of his house. (He also had no insurance.) So does this happen a lot? We are on our 3rd caravan, have always kept it at the back of our house (behind very secure 6...

    Highlands

Only go in April or early May. After that the midges will get you through to the end of Sept. The west is the worst. Incidentially you only get bitten by female midges (I think when they are pregnant.)

    Electric hook up in France

Thanks for all the replies. I have made up a short reversed lead using the standard blue sockets. This way I can use it at a site in France that uses the modern blue sockets or I can use it with my french connector. Total cost

    Electric hook up in France

I'm aware of the haphazard wiring in France and in fact spent 2 weeks on a site this year where the polarity was reversed. (I have a polarity tester.) However everything worked ok and neither I or my wife received any electric shock from anything so my question is does it matter? If it does then...

    ISLE OF MAN SITES

I may be wrong but I seem to remember that the IOM don't allow caravans on the island. Tents are fine and I think that camper vans are also ok. This is from a distant memory of TT's a number of years ago.

    Camping cheques

Don't know Ray but we have just booked through Caming Cheques a trip to Normandy next year and got an excellent deal on a ferry crossing from Portsmouth to Le Havre (free caravan)I was unable to beat the cost anywhere. I'll also make use of the camping cheques.

    Waste water

Thomas has a point. We stayed at 'Le Colombier' a Castels site in France this year and there was no where to empty the waste water. The office could only suggest the chemical toilet points or the motor home point outside the main entrance. I used the chemical toilet point and made sure I emptied...

    Powrwheel Powrmover

Has anyone had the 'grip' around the roller disintegrate? This has just happened on our powrmover on its first outing. No problem with Powrwheel changing the rollers just suprised that it happened.

    Nissan X-trail

Hi Nick I have a new (Sept 04) X trail 2.2 Dci Sport and tow a Sterling Eccles Jewel (max weight 1,500 kgs) and the X trail is great, will cruise at 60 mph in 6th.The only pain is changing down to 4th for hills. I previously had a Diesel Freelander also a good tower but not reliable.
