When we plug the grey plug into the car, the fuse to the car battery blows in the caravan, therefore nothing will work in the van. All worked well until recently.. Van is Abbey GTS Vogue 417 (1998). Anyone any suggestions?

Thanks.

First thing to check is the plug and socket check to see if the pins are shorting best done by dismantaling both and looking at the cable connections.

this may sound basic but have you checked that the caravan battery polarity is connected correctly.

Have you checked the fuse on the car that protects the 12 volt supply to the 12s socket If this fuse has also blown you may have a short to earth on the cable from your car battery to the 12s socket, 9 times out of ten its the cable connections at the back of the 12s socket water gets in and you end up with the cables shorting.

Hi Paul.

Caravan is going in to have new mains heater element fitted to fridge, so this problem is going to get sorted out as well. Had socket tested on car and we only have 1 permanet live instead of 3, but this could be due to a fault on the van, blowing the car fuse, which we cant find, or the relay switch on the car. We've admitted defeat on this one and will leave it to the experts, will let you know what it turns out to be for future reference.

Thanks.
