It's is no wonder these threads dissolve into war zones with rude arrogant socialist style insulting comment like Lutz's.

How many times should a person have to pay?

Lutz decides that because somebody has a more pricy car that they can afford to fund our governement failure to run our country well and spend our tax's well.

Emmerson's car is already providing far more tax to the government than say a Ford Ka, there is no rightfull reason why he should be expected to pay

I really don't see why you describe my statements as arrogant. As you probably know, I drive a 3 litre SUV because I like it. I probably wouldn't if it were significantly more expensive as my only income is my pension. However, I fully expect motoring to become significantly more expensive in the not too distant future, so I guess I'll have to get rid of it then, but by then I've had my fun and will have to get to terms with a new situation.

You are using the term "socialist" in disparagement. I don't see why it's any worse than calling anyone a liberal or a conservative (in both cases in small letters, not capitals). Just like everyone's got a right to choose one's own car, one's got a right to voice one's own attitude without the need to condemn other views. There are a number of contributors to this forum with whom I have disagreed and we've had good debates where we have finally agreed to disagree on the best of terms without hard feelings. Each to his own, whether it's cars or politics.

Absolutely Lutz! Your contributions have, in my experience, always been polite and well mannered.

Note to others - also frequesntly helpful and informative.

We agree S, Lutz posts some very good stuff but should keep his ideas on tax's and motoring costs to himself. What might be good for Germans and Germany he should jsut keep to himself.

I believe that Lutz has a Lexus 4x4, he's now told us that he is on a pension.

How he's affords a new Lexus on a pension is his business, no doubt a great deal of British pensioners would like to be as fortunate.

There is though regional differences between where Lutz lives and where we live and how both countries are run.

It's a little rich for Lutz to OK a raise in UK fuel tax and motoring costs from his Lexus pensioners world in Germany. When all UK Pensioners can afford to head for Waitrose in 4x4 Lexi then will be the time to comment on our fuel and general tax system ;-)

Dustydog , fame at last . I created that picture a year or so ago when we were probably discussing the same topic.

There was also an Airstream with about 6 axles if I remember correctly.

The combination of my state pension and the company superannuation is almost as high as my last salary. But that's not unusual here in Germany.

No need for you to have said Lutz. Very nice for you and well deserved I'm sure, that's how it should be for pensioners here in the UK.

I don't want to break the forum rules on Politics, but pensions and pension funds and Mr Browns robbery of the pensions is a very sore subject in the UK.

I just feel that you do not help with your views on tax's and motoring costs when you live elsewhere from most on the forum who pay UK rates of tax's or survive on UK pensions.

Before anyone gets too carried away with the thought that German pensioners must lead a cushy life with that sort of income, one should bear in mind that we do not have any special benefits and we pay income tax just as if we were still working. The conditions between the two countries cannot, therefore, be translated on a one to one basis, but I'm sure that if the cost of motoring is going to go up here, it certainly won't remain static in the UK, either.

I just couldn't remember who did it but it's a real gem. Well done.

Do you have something for 2010?

Cheers

Why it is found necessary to comment on a pensioner being able to afford an expensive. i find quite strange?

Are we to assume living on a pension equates to being poor?

I retired at 52, but if i so whished, i could run the same car as Lutz, i quite fancy a full electric car, but not a hybrid, as yet.

I think some of the posts above are too personal, my comments to Lutz are not designed to insult him, but to sometimes disagree with him, as he sometimes does with me.

On a forum all people have different views, and this leads to at times heated discussion, which i enjoy. But don't lets get personal, its not necessary, or very nice.

With respect Ray I think you need to re read the posts again.

No one was criticising what a pensioners income is.

I retired at 50 and have lived quite nicely for the past few years without getting my pensions yet, but I do describe us as pensioners.

For those who are not so fortunate or live on a more basic pension talk from the more fortunate of raising motoring costs or other tax's is just a smack in the face.

put it to bed folks, far too many personal digs at each other.

forums are meant to be fun, and informative of the general interests of all. this is a wee bit silly now, i know there will be attacks on me for saying so, but hey ho, truth hurts.

go to the chit chat and post some humour, ye will feel better.

Talking about going down hill, the xtrail has a gimmick call hilldesent, i have never used it, but with the proper winter we are now having, i looked it up in the handbook, thinking it would be useful, living at the top of a hill.

Criteria for use.

1/ must be in 4x4 lock.

2/ must be in first gear

3/ speed below 15mph (i think, forgot already)

4/ no problem with the above, but no4 is a pearlier, engine must be up to temperature!, so what am i expected to do, idle the car for 20 mins?

In short, i doubt i will ever use it.
Ray why bye it then
