Thanks for info everyone

hi Lol, we did try the Sorenta last week but it was a 2.7V6 petrol Auto (the only one available), we have struggled to find any diesels locally in our price bracket so far. The dealers say they thought the market would be flooded as the face lift is now out, but people seem to be buying new and keeping the old one as a second car?? 2 dealers have told us this so far.

Have you looked at the Hyundai Terracan?, excellent tow car for us loads of room and pull. Got mine from the dealers in Staffordshire with a cracking deal that i couldnt refuse. 5 year warranty helped as well.

When looking to change from a Passat 1.9tdi estate and go back to a 4x4, I tried the Sorento, Sportage, Santa Fe, Pathfinder and X-Trail (all diesel) as well as looking at what else was on the market. The Freelander was a non-starter as there is not enough headroom/seat height adjustment for me (6ft 3in), so I'd have to stoop to see out of the windscreen. Didn't seriously consider the CRV as I just could not get comfortable.

Too many people I spoke to on-site about their Sorentos complained of poor fuel economy. I quite liked the Sportage, it was comfortable, good ride, good performance but SWMBO didn't like the seats (big bolsters). Anyway, to cut a long story short I opted for an X-Trail 2.2dCi Columbia. It is now 6 months old, we have covered 5700miles, 3,000 of which was towing our Bailey Senator Oklahoma (1499kg MTPLM). Stability is excellent, much better than the 04 reg Passat estate. Solo ride and handling is very good indeed and even SWMBO agrees (she hated the Disco TD300 we had some years ago). Fuel economy when towing varies between 25 and 28mpg, depending on wind direction. Solo mixed journey consumption is 37mpg. All in all we are delighted with the car (and I've even overcome my secret hankering for a Pathfinder).
