I would like to know the thoughts on the following, it's been bugging me for ages.

There is a Black Police Officers Association and there is also a Gay Police Officers Association. Would a White Police Officers Association or a Heterosexual Police Officers Association be tolerated in our politically correct times? Somehow I don't think so because it's all one way traffic :O)

Opinions on a plain post please without email addresses because the net has eyes and you might be labelled a racist or sexist and the men in trilby's might knock on your door one night and confiscate your computer for having such thoughts on equality for whites and heterosexuals..... hehheh!

Somehow I can see this one getting heated especially if someone who shall remain nameless jumps in.However for my part I am with you on this one as I fail to see how you can have the examples that correctly quote such as Black police association but not the other way.In the same way white applicants to the police are frequently refused in favour of other ethnic backgrounds 'as they need more from this group'it seems that positive discrimination is allowed so long as it is in that direction.

Of course L.B is totally correct.

Unfortunately none our politicians dare express a similar view for fear of being lambasted by the liberal press.

As it is apparent that there are many people who crave for `equality` but see that what is being done in its name is actually anything but, it is inevitable there will be a migration to the more extreme parties as there will be nowhere else to cast a vote.

The current `head in the sand` attitude won`t do anyone any favours in the long run.

I agree Angus, The BNP now have 33 councillors. My sister is a racist and when I tackled her about it, she just replied it's OK for you living in Aberdeen, come and stay in Blackburn for a while.

A Black man is Black

A White man is White

That is FACT.

I have no problem with the Association of Black Police Officers same as I have no problem with the Association of White Police Officers.

Almost by default if your not in one your in the other !!!!!

Just following on from Franks post if I were a white police officer and wanted to join the Association of Black Police Officers would I be allowed? If I was refused would it not be classed as racism? Food for thought :O) I've just found two letters on this very subject. See below ...

I find it very difficult, to understand the legality of a "Black Police Officers Association". Is there an association for White Police Officers also? Would it not be correct, to have an all inclusive Association? When will the silent majority wake up and say enough is enough, it is not necessary to bend over backwards to appease ethnic minorities.

So explain to me how this works. An autonomous body within the police, can withdraw their cooperation if they dont like how the Met deal with other officers. Excuse me but I thought police officers followed orders from their superiors, not that groups within the police could effectively coerce their superior officers into doing what they wanted through threats. It all seems a bit of the tail wagging the dog. More to the point perhaps some people are getting just a little too carried away with their new found power in our oh so 'right on' police force.

Hi LB

I think there is a Black Police Officers Association and there is a Gay Police Officers Association because they are classed as being in the minority.

I don't think there would be a White POA, or a Hetrosexual POA as they appear to be in the majority.

The powers that be seem to always want to raise awareness and recruit people from the minority backgrounds.

Here's a question for you. How many police dogs are gaylords?

Well here is another group.....Personally I don't support any secular group if it restricts its members to a specific colour, race or creed.....And all these groups they say they are not racist.....yeh right!

Association of Muslim Police,

The Association of Muslim Police (AMP) aims to:

assist Muslims in the police service to observe their faith, and to promote understanding of Islam within the police service & the wider community.

provide a forum for Muslims in the police, and support their religious and welfare needs, with a view to improving their immediate working environment and retaining them in the Service.

assist in the recruitment and retention of Muslim staff, and to assist in the creation of a fair and just working environment for all cultural minorities.

The AMP is formally recognised by the Metropolitan Police Service. It is active in pursuing faith-friendly policies and has been instrumental in ensuring the provision of many facilities to the benefit of Muslim staff, including Hijaab for female officers, ability to wear Islamic/cultural dress when not in uniform, provision of Halaal food and facilities for Salaah (Islamic Prayer).

The AMP is available to provide support and advice to Muslim candidates. Those wearing Hijaab and considering a career in the police service are advised to contact the AMP for further specialist advice.

Membership enquiries are welcome from police and civil staff candidates including PCSO's, traffic wardens and cadets. Associate membership enquiries from spouses and family members are also welcome.

Interesting article

Quotas call by black police group

The number of minority officers should be in proportion to the area

The government should consider setting quotas to increase the number of ethnic minority police officers, said the National Black Police Association.

Members say they want to reopen the debate before their annual conference later this month.

Ten-year targets were set after the Macpherson report into the death of Stephen Lawrence in 1999, to make the police service more representative.

But many forces are likely to fall short, said the NBPA.

The organisation said this was despite a series of initiatives to encourage black and Asian people to apply.

The Macpherson report recommended police forces should have ethnic minority officers in proportion to the community being served.

Progression

Ministers must now "seriously consider" affirmative action, under which a set number of posts at all ranks of the police service would be reserved for ethnic minorities, said the NBPA.

The move would be likely to require legislation.

The Association of Chief Police Officers (ACPO) said it had concerns about the proposal - but agreed "radical" measures were needed if ethnic minority candidates were to be fast-tracked into the service.

Police Federation chairman Jan Berry told BBC Radio 4's Today programme targets were needed but "if you have a quota you are giving preferential treatment to one group".

She added: "This causes resentment among a workforce that uses teamwork to get on."

Difficulty

She called the targets set for some areas "unachievable".

"There are seven forces who will have great difficulty meeting the targets. To meet them by 2009 they will have to recruit 80% black officers," she said.

But Supt Ali Dizaei, one of Britain's top ethnic minority officers, told the programme that if two applicants of the same standard - one black, one white - were interviewed for a job and were the same standard, the black applicant should get it.

"There is no evidence at all that this debate, if implemented, is going to cause resentment," he said.

"In the US, a Gallup poll showed that 80% of people agreed with this kind of selection."

In April this year the Metropolitan Black Police Association (MBPA) suggested using positive discrimination to make the force more representative of London's racial mix.

Knock-on effect

The association put forward the idea to the Morris Inquiry which was investigating how internal complaints concerning ethnic minority officers were carried out.

At the time president of the National Black Police Association, Ray Powell, said positive discrimination would be useful in areas where there are a high percentage of ethnic minorities.

But he said there were already problems with 'positive action policies' in the police force.

"If we are to have any affirmative action, it should be on retention and progression, not recruitment. That would produce a knock-on effect, by example.

"Black and Asian officers like to know they make the grade as a detective because they are a good detective. They can recruit as many people as they like, but set them up to fail," he said.

With regards to the post I submit this, just to show how easy it to get the wrong end of the stick.

This is not confrontational it's just to show how people in society can get a persons motive wrong when it comes to racist issues.

Frank, quote 'it looks like it may be a Black on Black shooting'if that is not racist then I don't know what is and totally uncalled for comment, but then no doubt you will have an answer for that!

My answer to that was Operation Trident was set up by the Police to investigate Black on Black crime. Even the Home Secretary refers to Black on Black crime.

I am a member of a fraternity which has the belief that all men are equal no matter what creed, colour or religion. However when my son started universaty he noticed that a room was set up for muslims to prey in. He asked the chancellor if there was a church for him as he is a member of the Church in Wales and he was told there is no church or chapel on the universaty campus.

I have no objections to any person coming into this country as long as they did an honest and fair days work, obeyed the laws of this country whether they agreed with them or not, respect the Monarch and learnt the English language - in other words totally intergrated with British society.

My husband believes that if you are a white hetrosexual you will be discriminated against in this politicaly correct society.

Frankley i think i agree with him, Polical fashion has gone to far. I also think each to their own until it effects others and clearly this does!

I can't write anymore of how i feel about this as i could at best be banned off the forum or at worst lose my job. Diane

Lisa I am a member of a private gentlemen's club which has been in existance for many hundreds of years and where the Sex Discrimination Act does not come into force. There are female fraternal groups similar to the male clubs in various parts of the country.

Now for another view

(Verified on Snopes)

Muslims who want to live under Islamic Sharia law were told on Wednesday to get out of Australia , as the government targeted radicals in a bid to head off potential terror attacks.

A day after a group of mainstream Muslim leaders pledged loyalty to Australia and her Queen at a special meeting with Prime Minister John Howard, he and his Ministers made it clear that extremists would face a crackdown. Treasurer Peter Costello, seen as heir apparent to Howard, hinted that some radical clerics could be asked to leave the country if they did not accept that Australia was a secular state, and its laws were made by parliament. "If those are not your values, if you want a country which has Sharia law or a theocratic state, then Australia is not for you", he said on National Television.

"I'd be saying to clerics who are teaching that there are two laws governing people in Australia : one the Australian law and another Islamic law that is false. If you can't agree with parliamentary law, independent courts, democracy, and would prefer Sharia law and have the opportunity to go to another country, which practices it, perhaps, then, that's a better option", Costello said.

Asked whether he meant radical clerics would be forced to leave, he said those with dual citizenship could possibly be asked to move to the other country. Education Minister Brendan Nelson later told reporters that Muslims who did not want to accept local values should "clear off. Basically people who don't want to be Australians, and who don't want, to live by Australian values and understand them, well then, they can basically clear off", he said.

Separately, Howard angered some Australian Muslims on Wednesday by saying he supported spy agencies monitoring the nation's mosques.

Quote: "IMMIGRANTS, NOT AUSTRALIANS, MUST ADAPT. Take It Or Leave It. I am tired of this nation worrying about whether we are offending some individual or their culture. Since the terrorist attacks on Bali , we have experienced a surge in patriotism by the majority of Australians."

"However, the dust from the attacks had barely settled when the 'politically correct' crowd began complaining about the possibility that our patriotism was offending others. I am not against immigration, nor do I hold a grudge against anyone who is seeking a better life by coming to Australia ." "However, there are a few things that those who have recently come to our country, and apparently some born here, need to understand." "This idea of Australia being a multi-cultural community has served only to dilute our sovereignty and our national identity. And as Australians, we have our own culture, our own society, our own language and our own lifestyle."

"This culture has been developed over two centuries of struggles, trials and victories by millions of men and women who have sought freedom"

"We speak mainly ENGLISH, not Spanish, Lebanese, Arabic, Chinese, Japanese, Russian, or any other language. Therefore, if you wish to become part of our society .. Learn the language!"

"Most Australians believe in God. This is not some Christian, right wing, political push, but a fact, because Christian men and women, on Christian principles, founded this nation, and this is clearly documented. It is certainly appropriate to display it on the walls of our schools. If God offends you, then I suggest you consider another part of the world as your new home, because God is part of our culture."

"We will accept your beliefs, and will not question why. All we ask is that you accept ours, and live in harmony and peaceful enjoyment with us."

"If the Southern Cross offends you, or you don't like "A Fair Go", then you should seriously consider a move to another part of this planet. We are happy with our culture and have no desire to change, and we really don't care how you did things where you came from. By all means, keep your culture, but do not force it on others.

"This is OUR COUNTRY, OUR LAND, and OUR LIFESTYLE, and we will allow you every opportunity to enjoy all this. But once you are done complaining, whining, and griping about Our Flag, Our Pledge, Our Christian beliefs, or Our Way of Life, I highly encourage you take advantage of one other great Australian freedom,

'THE RIGHT TO LEAVE'."

"If you aren't happy here then LEAVE. We didn't force you to come here. You asked to be here. So accept the country YOU accepted."

A friend in Oz emailed me that Frank and although it pleased me greatly that at least there are political leaders out in the wide world who don't wear blinkers and have the guts to speak out for the majority it didn't elevate my spirits once I remembered the lily-livered prats that we have as politicians. Can anyone in this forum name me one politician in any party with the guts to speak those words because I can't think of one. Even David Davis, who maintains he would be tough on immigration and terrorism only this week spoke out about extending the 28 day detention for suspected terrorists. They are to busy trying to score political points and trying to make the opposition fail than putting us first. They are too busy thinking of the vote and their jobs and directorships of the future.

Friends in the U.S. also inform me that they too are going the same way as Oz and more of their politicians are starting to speak out. One of the favourite phrases is "Welcome to America - now learn English".

Wouldn't it be nice if we could buy a person like Howard. If he loses the election shall we have a whip round to pay his transfer fee?

I understand what you are saying LB

The friend in Australia who e-mailed it to me reckons Howard could be in for years if he wanted. I'm afraid all our politicos are afraid of the tag racist. So it will be like it will be for a while
