A Touch of Nostalgia

Clearing out decades of junk in the loft came across this photo of my very first caravan in 1978.
A 1974 model made by Ski. A small start up company by some ex employees of Knowsley,I think.
Water was provided by a heavy plastic Jerry can via a manual foot pump in the kitchen. Original lighting was courtesy of a gas mantle. I installed 12 v lights. No EHU capability. Hot water for the sink via a small gas geyser. Toilet was situated in the “broom cupboard” a Thetford porta potti! Waste water went into an old cut up Jerry can. But we loved it.

Looks a bit like our first one, a Knowsley Eros. had all the same "refinements" and a drop down kitchen so you could see straight through the van.
Traded it in for a swift which proved to be a load of junk.

Looks a bit like our old Piper but different colour and ours had less mod cons. It had four berths, well three and a hammock. No hot water just a foot pump to the sink, one strip light worked by the car battery and a gas mantle with two rings for the cooking . The toilet compartment was very shallow and the door opened out across the entrance and in front of the kitchen. Very little packing room so this became the larder. with a cool box for things that needed it.
We managed and only sold it because we had another child and needed five bunks.

Me in 1973 with my TR4A. She had to go to pay the deposit on my first house.,Harder today sadly for our youngsters.

My granddaughter is buying a brand new house with her partner and thankfully the mortgage has been extended for them to move into it when it is completed, wished them all the best in their new home.
