Alde Heating fluid / G13

Hi forum,

Hopefully a quick question.
My boiler heating fluid is due to a top up. I’m looking at the Alde G13 1l bottles at ~£18ea. But regular G13 antifreeze fluid is less than half the price.

So I’m wondering if there’s anything special with the Alde fluid. Or if any G13 fluid can be used?

Thanks 🙂

G13 is just a specification of coolant/anti-freeze, originally from VW Group, but all meeting the same specification so any brand can be used.

Be wary that some brands are pre-diluted to 50% so don't need further dilution!

I would guess its all about the colour so that anyone can tell if it is the original 2-year fluid or the 5-year that comes later. - and I would guess that the 2/5 year is another rip-off!

Although most coolant/anti-freeze uses colour, it's not part of the specification and can't be relied upon to identify different specification.

Thanks for the replies everyone.

So as I understand it, the fluid in the system is “just” anti-freeze/coolant, and therefore any G13 spec fluid can be used?
There’s nothing that makes the fluid “caravan friendly”?

Thanks 🙂

The antifreeze has corrosion prohibitors in it, my understanding is it these that start to breakdown causing corrosion within the system.

The only antifreeze Alde recommends is in my link. I think it is going back to G12++ due to an influence from America about the G13 properties
