Alko Hitch locks and Alko Secure

Hi, I have been reading through the posts up to June and would like to make a couple of comments. Ihope they haven't been made elsewhere.

1) Is it not illegall to have the Alko hitch lock on in France?

2) Why are the Alko receivers fitted on the awning side, when they would be a deterent if seen on the offside?

Just a thought.

Hi,

1. Don't know, but it's not a good idea to travel with the hitch lock in-place anywhere. Especially if the emergency services ever need to separate car from caravan.

2. AL-KO supply caravan components for the whole of Europe, and I'm guessing it wasn't worth producing the tooling to make a bracket for the other side just for the UK.

We got an Al-Ko Hitch Lock with our van but didn't really look in to any issues (because we managed to get it for free). Asides from the questions that have been answered, has anyone any other issues with Al-Ko Locks that new users should be aware of?

It is not ilegal to travel with a hitch lock on, but it is a pain in the bum to get them off in an emergency.

Make sure it is fitted if you leave the van unattended at a service area.

We never leave ours unattended, when we go to the loos we go one at a time. Too many thievs about.

G.
