Hi There!

Just got back from our first weekend away wiht the Mondeo it towed brilliantly however we noticed that occasoinaly when I accelerated or was slowing down there was a vibration sort of noise coming from what sounded like the front wheel area I have also noticed this even when I am not towing. It is a 2004 2.0 130bhp model. Any ideas or advice would be greatly appreciated

Many Thanks!

hi francis

does it happen when just de-acelerating or when slowing by using brakes?

if braking could be a slightly warped disc? i have a 2004 2.0 deisel 130bhp mondy to and had a similar problem a couple of yrs ago found it to be the disc hope this is a little help

Hi thanks for the reply it does it when slowing down but also when speeding up so not sure it would be the breaks but I will mabye get that checked out anyway. I think it may possibly be a slight vibration from the exhaust possibly a loose bracket or something but will have a closer look at the weekend.

Hi Francis.

Cant say ive had that kind of noise on my Mondeo, and not being all that mechanically minded, was wondering if it may be the driveshaft?

Hi thanks for the replies I dont think it is anything as serious as the driveshaft or flywheel (hope not anyway) it sounds to me as if there is somthing rubbing against the front offside tyre it may possibly be a cover or something it isnt the mud flaps thought as I have already checked this could it be a slight vibration from noise from the exhaust

Hi We went to Spain for the winter just gone and while driving along started to hear a rumbling kind of noise from the wheel area.Sometimes was more noticeable than others & sometimes depended on the speed or surface of the road.I started thinkin it could be a wheel weight fell off or even a wheel bearing starting to rumble, anyway it never got any worse all the time we were away. When we got home to the uk we got it checked out at the garage that does our servicing & Mots. The technician took the car out for a drive around and put it on the ramp and checked it all out as he had heard the same rumbling sound. He checked everything ya can think of and the only fault he found was that the tyres were out of shape!!.He explained that out of shape meant that the rubber the tyre walls were made of had over the time become distorted.I asked him to show me what he meant so we looked at the inside tyre walls an sure enough they did seem to have a very slight bulge to them.If you run your fingers under the wheel arches and around the tyre walls i could just feel the bulge and yet the outside walls were good.He said that he has heard of this before but not up untill then come across it and although the tyre is safe the cheaper tyre can sometimes be less strong in the tyre wall area.He said that he had remebered reading an article from Vauxhall/Opel & Ford that on both the Vectras & Mondeos the manufacturers recommended a particular tyre brand. My tyre are coming up to 2yrs old now & i will be changing them all very soon and so will spend that little bit more on a good tyre, not that this set were particularly cheap but they were made in eastern europe and they didnt seem too bad a price at the time.I guess ya get what ya pay for.Our car is a vectra 2.2tdi and i know yours is a Mondeo its just that the Mot tech did say it was a thing with both makes. So maybe ya can get the tyre walls checked over.Hope this helps,Regards Kev.
