Another Question for Lutz - Sorry

Lutz,

We've got a Dethleff's New Line (2000) German Spec - Do you think the reading/spot lights are working off 220/230V or are they 12 V via a transformer, I suspect the latter. But it's guess work, the RCD is pretty much a sealed unit. Out of interest the main lights takes a normal bulb

Any help would be appreciated

Disconnect the caravan from the mains supply and try the lights if they work they must be 12V from the battery.

Alternatively It should be easy to check by removing one of the bulbs and reading the impressed information on the bayonet/edison screw. That will tell what the voltage and wattage is.

German vans tend not to have batteries, the 12 volt items are run from 230/12volt transformers.

I don't know an awful lot about Dethleffs (I've got a Knaus with battery) but I strongly suspect that the reading lights are 12v running off a transformer. As Rod says, most German caravans are like that.

Ive only been in 1 dethleffs and it didnt have a battery, it only ran the 12v from transformer, dont know what the lights were.

For your help, Sorry forgot to say we don't have a battery fitted, though to be honest we would never use 12 V as we usually go CC sites with facilities and they always provide hook ups.
