Any one got a Zafira 1.6?

We bought our 2003 Zafira club 1.6 last year before any thoughts of caravanning. Now we are looking to get one, I am thinking we should have bought the 1.8 instead. 85% of the kerb weight seems to work out at about 1170KG but the book says Max Tow is 1100kg. I'm assuming this is due to small engine. We have three small children and have been looking at Bailey 4 berth caravans in the 2-3k price range. Many seem to be MTLP? of around 1100kg which I think would be O.K

What do people think? Any advice?
 
Theoretically your Zafira could pull a caravan with an MTPLM of 1175kg (=1100kg max. towload + 75kg noseweight) but you'll probably find that the 1.6 will find itself rather breathless. If you're prepared to use the gears a lot with plenty of revs and forget about using 5th gear when towing, it might just about be acceptable.
