Our grandson worked as a bar manager in a local pub for about 2 years and dealt with all orders etc. He then left due to unsocial hours as he is only 25. he then worked as a manager for a health shop. He was head hunted by Bulmers about 2 months ago and now has a very good job with decent hours, good salary plus benefits.

It's similar to other social media platforms where you have to set up your preferences etc very carefully to avoid irrelevant spam. I only use it for/receive information from within my industry BUT it now resembles Facebook groups with people boasting/falling out/making things up etc hence me always referring to it as a "poisonous playground", BUT marketing managers love it so I use it just to humour them!
My two ex SILs and FiL were HGV drivers on big artics. Two did long haul in Britain and Europe, one was on bulkers. My daughters best friends ex husband was also large HGV artics. It’s a challenging occupation. There’s liking to drive and having to drive for a living.
The one thing all had in common was the pressure on family life mainly through tiredness when arriving home. FIL died quite young before reaching 65.
Same with a good friend of ours. Pulled into services and passed away. He had a medical only a few weeks prior.
I occasionally follow a couple of truck drivers videos on YouTube and it's not a job I'd fancy, it certainly seems quite stressful career! Also shows that it's not just caravan owners that fall foul of weight loading as well with some being overweight despite their best intentions and research when loading.

I've "always" loved driving, from before I was old enough to do so legally and revelled in the fact that one of my early jobs entailed 50,000 miles/year - but I gradually began to hate driving in later years and could think of nothing worse by the time I retired - but within months of retiring I'd found my mojo again basically because there was no pressure to get anywhere by a set time plus I could choose what day and what time to travel, avoiding peak periods wherever possible.

Well as you can remember I was handed my notice of employment in March.
Since then my contract was extended twice, one till the end of July, and now till the end of November.
Obviously I am greatful of the work and it pays the bills, but on the other hand there should be rights for employees so HR can't take the 'P' and keep rolling contracts over with short extensions to suit them!
I contacted the Citizens Advice, who then pointed me to ACAS and they basically said, HR can do what ever they wanted.... which wasn't what I wanted to hear 🙁
There should be a law that employers can only extend employees notice periods to a max 3, then they need to either take them back on the books or let them go! Pretty sure Denmark and other countries have a max limit.
I mean, this period hasn't been good on the family stress, and my mental health has been shot!

Naturally I’m going to accept to keep paying my bills, but there comes to a point the company has to be ‘fair’ and one would argue…if they keep extending, surely it shows that position still exists!

As always the devil is in the details, and in the back of my mind I think I have heard that some N, Sea oil contracts have non standard terms of service. Perhaps your employer is not a registered UK business which might mean different employee rights in some matters.

In post 1 you said the employer offered an extension but on another rig. Doesn't this mean that working on the second rig is a different position from the job you were made redundant from? Are both rigs owned and operated buy the same company? If not that makes it much more complicated.
I was offered an extension on another Rig but in the same position, then when my original Rig bagged another small contract I went back there on a second extension and in the same position.

I fully understand the world needs to start reducing their carbon, but the way Starmer is pushing against the Oil Fields and not allowing new licenses is costing the UK thousands of jobs!
Let’s not lose sight of the considerable investments in renewables such as wind and solar power, new transmission infrastructure, energy storage facilities, north -south electric interconnecters, plus new nuclear at Sizewell C and SMRs funding for development by RollsRoyce etc. Periodic reports reveal that some of these developments are being held up by lack of skilled workers. So adding more licences to offshore oil could only exacerbate the shortage of workers for the low carbon economy. Plus despite the oil being in UK waters it’s sold on the global market at world prices and does nothing to support our self sufficiency in energy. Detaching electric from the price of oil should lead to reductions in bills once someone gets a handle on the contracting regime associated with renewables or nuclear.
Not sure how that is going to help the thousands of people loses their livelihood and at the same time having an environmental impact on the land and sea? Never mind the fact that at some point in the future our kids and their grand kids will need to find a way fo disposing of solar panels, wind turbines etc. Sadly all meant to be for our own good and save the planet. 👎
