Hello, Could anyone who tows a van with a mondeo Tdci hatch or Estate, 2.0 or 2.2 take the time to let me know what weight (mtplm) your van is, (Or what it weighs approx when being towed) I would just like to see who tows the heaviest van and what the average weights being towed by this car are.

I currently tow 1300kg with a 2.2tdci st hatch with ease. I am thinking of a newer van which may be nearer 1500kg Mtplm (I have a kerb weight of 1560kg (weighbridge)which is approx 96%)

Anyone else tow a van this heavy?

Cheers

Mike

Thanks for your reply, Is your van ever fully loaded? and how about performance on takeoff and braking. Thanks for your time.

As I am 95% I try to keep the weight down in the caravan, so clothes go in case, in car, We only carry small gas cylinders to keep nose weight correct and in general only load van with basic needs putting every thing else in car.We only use a large porch awning which all so goes in the car but I have recently tried this loaded in the caravan over the axle and still travels well so will probably keep doing this.As its only me, wife and dog never a problem with space.Car pulls away with no trouble even on inclines and I can travel on motorways at 60mph in fifth gear not having to change down apart from long steep inclines, but this is rare.As I have allready said I am very pleased with all aspects of the outfit performance.

I tow a Vanmaster accolade 1700k.But it is never loaded more than 1600k,all extra weight is put in the estate awning, barby, jenny, beer, dog box and three dogs etc.So weight of car is around 1750k giving 90%. Tows it up to legal limit efortlesly up and down the hills of Wales. But you must use that very rare comodity common sense on the motorway and windy conditions, I have been towing for 30years.

Hi Mike I returned from France yesterday pulling my Buccaneer Elan 14,MTPLM 1400KG.My car is a 2005 Mondeo Ghia x 2.0 tdci hatchback.Firstly we had 2 recliner chairs.2 fold up bikes, awning poles box of bits pegs etc, bbq, sun brolley (could of left that at home)ground sheet, and lots more, there was room for plenty more. The caravan had the awning clothes and food,so wasn`t fully loaded. The car was superb it pulled up every hill with ease, and returned around 38 MPG.I now know why the Mondeo has a max tow limit of 1800KG.I have been caravaning for 25 years and this is by far the best car to tow with to date.

Hi

I have a Swift Charisma 565 (1302kg)and a TDCi 115bhp hatch. Uprated the rear suspension and fitted a tuning box which transformed the car. its brilliant at towing now, although still not as a good as my old 1996 Vectra! Honestly.
