Bailey 12 volt failure

I have a new Bailey Pageant Burgundy. Mains electrics work fine so does 12v off the car. I cannot get any 12v from the caravan. When mains is on the battery meter does not register from the van but does from the car. Is there a fuse other than the 'van batt+" fuse in the main consumer unit?

I crossed the battery terminals when fitting the battery - a few sparks!!

Hi Gary - this happened to me once on my avondale rialto. I replaced the 25v in-line fuse which was close to battery and before the 12v fuse/control box. On my new van there is a "battery" fuse on the main 12v fuse box.

Check your 12v fuse box and/or try to trace the in-line fuse. I am nearly sure most caravan have this fuse protection for batteries - seems silly not to!!

Good luck

John

Hi Gary (again) - just checked bailey website and downloaded service handbook. The wiring diagram for the Pageant shows a "van fuse" on the 12v fuse box (top fuse). Check this has not blown.

Hope this is the solution, otherwise looks like its back to dealer!

Thanks John,

I have checked the van battery fuse and even replaced with another 15 amp fuse - no joy. I have traced the battery cable from the box back to the mains unit (apart from behind the cupboards) and I cannot find any other fuse.

Could I have blown part of the charging system on the van side without damaging the car battery input which works fine?

If it is the same as my Bailey Senator Arizona then you will find the bulk of the fuses under the front left hand seat & again if it is the same as my fuse box it will be one of the top two 15Amp fuses.

Went back to the mains unit and pulled out all the fuses near the van battery fuse and something started clicking behind one of the fuses. Now everything is working.

Thanks for the help.

Hi Gary I would have said that the battery meter should read 12+ volts as you say.

So I've just been out to the van to make sure!

I have a cut off switch in the main battery lead so it was easy to check and it does indeed read 12+ volts on the battery meter when just the charger is connected.

It looks as though there must be another fuse possibly inside the charger itself or if not your charger may have not survived the reverse polarity.

Hope its a secret fuse

Best wishes .

In the Senator there are two fuses under the main fuse box wrapped in black tape for the alarm and something else !!!

It may be worth having a look
