Bailey awning rail repairs

We have a Bailey Pageant Champagne (2002). On a tricky manouvere my poor husband damaged the rail on the off side of the van. About a 3 foot strip at the bottom needs replacing, which is a fairly straight section. As he repairs & services most things on the farm, being quite a good mechanic, he was thinking of giving it a go himself.

Would appreciate anyone's experiences of similar repairs. Looking for some sound advice and if he is bonkers to comtemplate doing so?!!
