I will be travelling south onto M74 / M6 from Loch Lomand. Has anyone a preferred rote arround Glasgow? Is it best to cross the Erskine Bridge (how much is the toll?), and join the M8, or to follow A82 through the city joining M8 at juction 17?

I will be towing the caravan, and have heard horror stories about these routes in the past. Thaks in advance for any help.

Hi Paul,

We live just north of Glasgow, and have a daughter who lives in Paisley so use the Erskine Bridge regularly.

1......there are no tolls on this bridge now.

2. There are now bridge repairs ( not Erskine Bridge )until October.Travelling from Loch Lomond immediately after crossing the bridge ALL traffic is being diverted down towards Greenock in quite a long loop.A bit disconcerting if you are not expecting it.

We now turn left immediately we have crossed the bridge and go onto the A726 through Erskine and then onto the motorway at Junct.29.There is no problem with this road for towing and once on to the motorway you just keep going. It is busy,so try to avoid rush hour.

3.The A82 is mostly dual carriageway into Glasgow, but does become choked with traffic as you get near the centre.

If you really feel you can't face that......an alternative is to come up the A82 to Anniesland ( a huge junction controlled extremely well by traffic lights.)Turn right following the signs for the Clyde Tunnel A739.Go through the tunnel and then stay on the dual carriageway after the tunnel until you see the signs for the Motorway M8 Glasgow and go on at junct.25.

Not sure when you are travelling but if you want any more help just let us know.

Thanks for your help folks. I will be travelling through about 10 or 11am probably Thursday 6th September, so make a note to avoid the area!!!

Thanks also for the A726 tip, Maureen.

we always use the erskine bridge when coming back from the highlands to Devon....never any problems and really easy to navigate (would be hard to get lost)...if we can do it - you can do it !! ;-)
