Of to France in August for the first time, staying at Camping Le Parc du Val de Loire, just out side Tours. Can any one of you advise me which way to go round Paris, West or East, don't fancy the straight way through.

What ferry crossing are you using? This makes all the difference as to which way to go around Paris. Tours is to the West of Paris so it would make sense to choose a route via Rouen etc. Try mappy.com or Viamichelin - both give good and accurate routes and you can specify various things. Whatever you do, don't go straight through! If you're using Calais then the 'Francilienne' (E104) around Paris to the East is a good route - and at Evry you just head for Orleans/Chartres.

Just had a quick look at mappy.com and it suggests the very routes I mentioned. It's a good site - and even displays the autoroute signs where appropriate so you can look out for the exits you want. It also allows you to choose with/without caravan, and whether you want to use the toll roads or not.

Hi ,the ferry port is Calais, had a quick look at the Mappy web site, (good) and they surggest A1/ A3 /A86 then onto the A10 and hopefully Tours, don't mind paying the tolls, it's just that a friend goes the west side round, but then again he thinks he knows it all been there and he has got the T-shirt, so any info /HELP would be greatly appreciated in this matter,

THANKS

Matt,

Just got back from France and spent our first few days at Neung sur Breavron (Think thats how it went) We had a very smooth trip via Abbeyville,Rouen and then down to the Loire. The only scary moment was on entry to Rouen The dual Carriageway goes down a rather steep hill. That didnt bother me so much as the group of suicidal coppers at the top of the hill who kept jumping out in front of the traffic because they thought it was travelling too fast. Nobody was doing much over 40mph. Oh and by the way. At the bottom of the hill their is a tunnel and immediately before the hole there is a speed camera. The speed limit at that point is 90kph
