"Been there" also on this one - sat navs are very litteral just like computers. Tell em you want the quickest route or the shortest and you can get caught just the same with a van!

I have found that a bit of prep with "show the route" on the satnav and intelegent use of Multimap.com works wonders. The nightmare of ever narrowing country lane climbing or descending into obscurity can often be avoided with some planning.
 
We have a garmin nuvi 300. I think to avoid the narrow road problem you have to put in what it calls via points. Haven't worked out how to do this yet, so some more fun times ahead!!
