Buying the right car to suit my caravan

Hi All and thank you for allowing me to join the forum.

I'm currently looking for a second had car to use as a tow vehicle. I've come across a Honda CR-V 1.6 DTEC auto diesel to tow my Swift Conquerer 570 (2016) model. Does anyone have a simialar vehicle for towing and would recommend this as a good outfit. The car has a BHP 160 and the Kerb weight is 1638kg. The caravan has a MTPLM of 1486kg.
Any advice and help is welcome.
Thanks

Doug

Usual guidance is 40bhp for every tonne of train weight. Using your figures 1638+1486 = 3124kg so divide by 1000 and multiply by 40 comes to about125bhp so theoretically your car should manage it well.

However the car may be more than the kerb weight when loaded and full of people!

Look at Towcar.info matching website that gives good information. I comfortably towed 1400 kg with a loaded 138 bhp Sorento and it had no problem climbing the gruelling inclines driving to and around Millau. As well as power the torque of the engine contributes towing experience and turbo diesels outperform naturally aspirated petrols on that account. Ostensibly the Honda looks a good match, and the DECT diesel is well regarded. Honda tend to do well in the reliability surveys too.
