Can anyone recommend a good site for a 1 night stopover somewhere on the road between Caen and Alencon? Caravan, car & 2 children! Thanks,

Will be looking for the same thing myself so I'll be watching this thread with interest. There are the odd couple I've picked, one on the north side of Alencon, sorry can't tell you more than that as I don't know myself, if I get more info I'll post it. There's also 1 or 2 in Sees, a small town north of Alencon on the main route from Caen to Le Manns. Stayed in a Municiple here a long time ago, all i can tell you is that it is well signposted. Not much help I know but it might help to jog other peoples memories. Otherwise a copy of Alan Rogers frech sites book might help.

Richard, last year we had the very same question and decided that as we would be arriving in Caen around 10pm that we would drive through the night to Royan where we were staying. I think we went down the A83 or 84 and after around 80 miles I stopped for fuel at St Michaels Mount services. Whilst we were filling up we noticed a large group of British caravnners who had all pulled in to the parking area. We had always had reservations about doing this but decided that the place looked safe, we pulled in, spent the night there and left refreshed. Sorry if I am a bit vague about the route and exact location but you could do the same if you are in the same place at similar times.

Richard, There is a very good municipal at Falaise. It is in the shadow of William the Conquerors castle and a short walk into the town. good pitches, toilets etc and very reasonable charge. I usually make it my first night stop over when arriving at Cherbourge early evening. If you require the phone number or e mail address let me know.

Don't know what time you are arriving in france but you could try Chateau Martragny looking on the map its about 20-25 miles from Ouistreham. It's a Castels site for info www.les-castels.com. Hope this helps

Ray is right, Falaise has a lovely site and the town is a good place to walk around, taking in the sights. Next stop, on the same route, is Argentan. Beautiful little municipal site within walking distance of the town. If you fancy a small detour, the municipal at Vimoutiers is not to be missed.

Sees is excellent for overnight stop - cheap, good pitches separated by hedges, very neat and tidy, new loo/shower block and when we called last year, free cider!! Oh, and a supermarket about 100 metres away for fresh bread/croissants in the morning
