Thetford toilet detached pipe

The pump on my toilet flush tank was stuck as it sometimes does over winter. Is got the pump out gave it a turn with a small screwdriver and it was spinning. Great until i looked in the bowl to find it was full of red water from the tank and the outlet was still running. I found a second with jubilee clip on the end pipe in the water tank that was going no where. Just hanging loose. No idea what this is for as the pump dips into the water and the pipe attached to that presumably goes to the flush in the bowl. Anyway when pressing the flush button the motor spins but no water is going into the bowl. except that which is already running. Anyone any ideas?
