Yep, having been given a top price on the Rover as it was in tip top nick, a car decided to drive into the side of our car yesterday on our way home after a day of hunting for a new tow car.

Now have no car for towing...and a big delay before we buy a new one...great, thanks for all your help in the meantime with towcar choices etc...

We shall now sulk as we will not be caravaning for a while and have probably just lost a couple of K against the value of our car...

Bad Luck - I really feel for you. A similar thing hapened to my son who spent months searching for the car he wanted and then just three weeks after buying it - this idiot drove out of a side road and into the side of his car.

It was totalled.

AND!!! - From our experience here (and mine as an IFA in general) DO make sure you have witnesses to prove it was 100% the other persons fault.

Even tho we had witneses - the Insurance Companies wanted to do a deal on a 50/50 blame basis. We had to fight our own insurance company to get them to do what they are paid for and fight our claim against the other party!

Also if you can prove it is a 100% fault of the other party - then you can have the car repaired where YOU want - not some insurance company scheme garage that uses non OE parts and sometimes suspect practices.

Sadly - I fear you are going to be busier than you expected and for all the wrong reasons.

Hope things go well for you.

Sorry to hear of your accident H & M,the timing is unfortunate but I suppose there is never a good time to have an accident. Unless you hit one of our trucks.

Our insurance company are brilliant.

How about:- Our truck is stationary at traffic lights, a Corsa containing four youths of non-european origin (we are in West Yorkshire and because of PC if I state the obvious this would probably be deleted) overtake the line of cars waiting at the lights (on double white lines) and clip our truck at the head of the queue, spin into the lights and the into a wall. No seatbelts, no insurance but lots of witnesses who are then threatened by said occupants. A couple of witnesses then call the police. Cut and dried? Sure is! They got paid AND compensation for whiplash.

OR:- The best of the lot!! Our driver fills up his vehicle on a forecourt (44 tonne artic, sparkling white). Whilst in the kiosk paying for the fuel an `owd codger` about 135 years of age drives his Vauxhall Chevette (when did you last see one of them?) into the tanker! This was witnessed by the kiosk operator AND was on CCTV. He put a claim in for god knows what and was successful!

The moral is:- make doubly sure you have all bases covered, loads of witnesses and be prepared for a fight.

Alternatively, just drive into one of our trucks.

I wish you the very best of luck for a speedy and successful resolution.

Agree 100% Angus

I would add that we now carry a digital camera with us at all time in the car just in case.

Use it in the event of an accident but do not make it too obvious. It can "upset" anyone who is less than honest shall we say!

Get statements and telephone numbers and be prepared to take statements yourself to be sure.
