Camping Municipal's

I am looking at staying at the Camping Municipal Du Lac in Dijon for a night at the end of July and a night at the end of August, As I have never stayed at a Camping Municipal I have a couple of Questions.

1. Do I have to book?

2.If I dont have to book what is the latest time I should get there?

3. How Much per night?

Ian, many municipal sites do not accept bookings, but usually if you arrive before around 5pm you will get a pitch. As for price, it can vary, but my 2005 copy of Caravan Europe gives the price for this one as 10.50 Euros per night, so if you add a little on to that to allow for inflation, you shouldn't be too far out. It also gives an e-mail address (infotourism@ot-dijon.fr), which sounds like to local tourist information bureau, so it may be worth contacting them about the possibility of booking - I'm sure they will speak English, if you are at all nervous about making the enquiry in French!

We regularly use Camping Municipals when we are in France and they can vary from very basic 2 star sites to extremely well equipped 5 star sites with prices to match, ie 15 - 50 euros. Some will accept bookings, but generally there is a non-returnable booking fee which is additional to the site fees and this fee can be as much as 30 euros. We never book sites but telephone the day before to see if they have a pitch. On the larger sites you will probably find someone who speaks some English, but very rarely on the lower rated sites.

Look the FFIC website: http://www.campingfrance.com where the price for 2009 is shown as 14.9 euros. Another excellent site is the dutch site http://www.eurocampings.co.uk/en/europe/

Good luck and have a wonderful holiday
