I am complimented LB, and rather amused that you actually took the time to pick apart my tongue in cheek comments 'line by line' As I stated the Beeb must have been crap again tonight. I also did not sit 'panting' waiting on the Booking System to open in order to get all my dates logged on, as it appears many did. Actually I did most of mine in September as dare I say it, you can do that on most Continental sites. In fact booking is available all year round. Not that it was to get on a particular site that I wished to do this, but I have found that certain parts of the sites I want are in direct sunlight, and can be uncomfortable in the heat of the day, so requesting a particular pitch was my main reason. No deposit was necessary as we use ACSI and Camping Cheque. Receipt of very polite e mails, in English, confirming my requests were much appreciated.

Although I was indeed 'funning', I have actually had some complaints in the past regarding my pitching beside the peg. These were mainly due to the fact my door is on the offside and the wardens seemed unable to understand that this normally means my awning/car are on the opposite side of what they feel are the only layouts in the world. That and having had the van 'shotblasted' by a warden running the grass cutter over the hardstanding on one occasion did not impress me too much. Yes, of cpourse I have found many good wardens, however it is the bad ones you always remember for some reason. It is not that they are bad, they just look at you as if you are disturbing their day by even wanting to book in. And has anyone noticed how the moring newspaper issuing seems to be a major operation requiring lots of time. It is only newspapers for goodness sake, and don't dare ask to get one that is lying on the counter before they are ready even if you are leaving early ( and pre advised) to catch a ferry.

The facilties again were comments without any intention of either desiring or wanting all of them. I merely pointed out that the majority of EU sites have all or many of them as they seem to feel that this is what their customers want. They certainly do not provide them as an act of charity as they are commercial enterprises.

As I note that the issue of the CC booking system seems to cause many palpitations every year, one does wonder why people wish to put themselves through that particular ordeal. I know that in many of the so called 'popular areas' there are equally attractive sites from the C&CC which do not suffer from overbooking this soon in the next season. Maybe the thought of actually putting some cash on the table is an anathema.

As you correctly conclude, I will not be participating in the CC 'bun fight' and so that pitch will be free for someone else to enjoy, with my best wishes.

To me the Caravan Club prices are still very reasonable.

We have booked Looe CC site for 9 days in August for £30.40 a night for the 3 of us. This site has a heated pool, crazy golf and a big play area & tennis courts.

I enquired about a commercial site at the north west corner of the New Forest & for the 3 of us they wanted £50 per night!!! While it is a very good site (we have been many times before), I am not sure it is worth nearly twice the price.

I am not sure why the Caravan Club has to be victimized for raising it's prices, perhaps they were just very, very reasonable last year.

I've just been reading the aircon post SL

It seems that all is not well in Utopia with their droning sounding like a symphony of vibrators in overdrive throughout the night

Surely all those who complain about them aren't CC members? ... heh! heh! heh!

I did mention in one of my Posts that I was not too impressed with the CC toilet facilities. Not that they are not clean or anything like that, it is just they are a bit, what shall I say, ‘military’. Being based on a standard utilitary design which I suppose does allow you to find your way around in the dark. One usually knows on entering the ‘Gents’ (with your key) that urinals are to the left with 2 small washbasins and J cloth conspicuous. To the right are the washbasins with curtains drawn and more J cloths attendant. In front are 5 toilets to the left and 4-5 showers to the right and washbucket conspicuous in the middle. I keep looking on the notice board for a paper marked ’Ablutions Rota’ and signed Sergeant Major XXXX.
Again, I am not trying to state that the CC do not do their best, but there is very little to interest one, although many would say, Hey, you are going to the Loo, why have interest?’
To try and explain my case I am attempting the photograph bit of this Forum for the 1st time and show a picture of the ‘gents’ in one of the sites I visit. I do not make a habit of photographing ‘gents’ but this one was certainly interesting. It shows the washbasin area containing about 20 cubicles. Through the swing doors are about 20 shower cubicles, some of which have en suite toilets and washbasins. There are also 20 toilets separate. The Ladies have similar next door. All facilities are spotless and are cleaned at least twice per day. One could also sit on the seat and contemplate the surroundings, if you so wished. Do not ask me about the statue, but he does look impressive in real life. As you know the Med has a lot of plaster works and statues like this are cheap and commonplace. There were many dotted around the site so entering the main route was a bit like walking along the Via Appia. These plus the fountains and the sound of the parrots, cockatoos and Myna Birds did add an air of tropicality to the site. Not really the same as Beechwood Grange perhaps, unless the sound of the York bypass is to your wish. However, this did indicate why many EU vans do not have large washrooms. With excellent facilities like this there is no need.
You may feel that this was a ‘holiday camp’ type site but you would be wrong. No entertainment in the evening and after 9pm usually the only sounds were the owls and the waves breaking on the beach outside the gates. Add in the on site swimming pool, bar/restaurant if you wished and minimarket with fresh croissants and baquettes every morning a 8 am. One could also get UK papares at 8.30 am fresh of the Press, if you wished to cheer yourself up by reading the gloom and doom back home. All for €15 per night including electric.
If anyone does however recognise the location please keep it quiet. Might get some of those CC Wallahs in the place.

Rowntree park , as usual , has no continuous one or two week slots available, Every single weekend is fully booked.
I'm so slow these days I forgot about the great bun fight.
Never mind the only loser is the CC .Members like me know there are other excellent non CC sites available at equally competetive prices, plus a great time to try out all those magnificent CLs.
I had hoped the CC would have at least saved some full week slots at Rowntree Park for 2011.
Bidding on e-bays easier

Regarding your pic of the ablutions SL. I do have concerns over it
smiley-undecided.gif

It's the bog bench, what is it for? Is it for voyeurs to sit and take pics in the said ablutions? If so I bet those people are CC members
smiley-laughing.gif

I suppose it does look ok but statues and benches in the bogs? When I use them I look for something tidy, clean and designed for the job in hand (pardon pun) rather than feeling I'm doing my ablutions in a museum ... heh! heh! heh!

Is that a bog roll in the right hand of the statue?
Very artistic! The miniature versions of the gentleman depicted in the statue but without the modest robe are in the shower cubicles. They provide something to hang the towel on .

Must be an old pic. That's a communal ashtray at the bottom of the statue and the bench must be for the smokers whilst they await their turn.

For some reason there is no response from him, not sure why. Maybe he couldn't navigate from the PCv pages to check out the CC web site. Then maybe he wasn't in a happy mood and it was the first thing he could think of to moan about

Oh dear , there are more pressing matters in this world than staying on this site .Work is one of them.Paying for the national debt and funding your National Health Service.

As previously explained i have to plan at short notice. As for the other poster who suggested i take my hols in July and August, why the hell would i want to go for 2 days in August- its the School Holidays and we have 2 weeks at Appledurcombe on the I.O.W, and i certainly dont want to be at Chatsworth in March or November thank you very much.
Its cold , damp and the kids get covered in Mud.

May and June are good but they are booked up and were booked up by the evening of the 8th.

If you go to Chatsworth try Il Lupo in Baslow its very nice and they like kids, they love kids. If you are a bit skint then try the "carvery " at Owler Bar ,. all you can eat for £5.0 and free wifi. Or the Peacock Suit you down to the ground.

In know Baslow and the surrounding areas very well. I live quite close by. My kids love walking up Stanage , Higger Tor, Burbage , Carls Wark I used to go pot holing in Castleton and climbing at Stanage and Curbar when i was younger.

I have a few clients in Baslow and Carver.

ta ta , must go and pay some more taxes know so that you can get free health care.

Ahh I see, May and June are good but they were booked up. You don't want to go in July/August because of school holidays or March/November because of the mud despite weekends being available.
That only leaves April, September and October and at the time of my original posting they even had weekends then. Unfortunately the club aren't going to keep a pitch available indefinitely just incase Philspadders might need it for a weekend.
To a certain extent I do understand your problem because I worked 12 hour shifts 365 days of the year and having a family I couldn't afford to turn down the extra shift in overtime but where we differ is I was more realistic about the situation and realised I couldn't have my cake and eat it. Now being retired I like to think I'm enjoying the taxes I've paid all my working life, especially on my overtime, but I'm still being taxed on my pension. I'm not bothered though because everyday is a weekend now and I get to go to bed every night instead of going to work for some moronic drunk to puke over me and then give me verbal abuse

So Spadders is a fair weather caravanner then, no wonder he can't get a pitch when he wants, all the other "I only go out when the weather is nice" brigade got there first - the same ones that block book weekends!!!!
smiley-wink.gif

Rather a pathetic excuse for not caravanning in the Spring and Autumn IMO - it's not as warm, and the kids might get mucky, so what?
smiley-surprised.gif

As it's everybody elses NHS - Spadders must go to BUPA - poor soul having to pay for us all who don't!! LOL

Oh dear Phil. You seem to think the rest of us don't pay any taxes at all! If only
smiley-wink.gif

When I worked I had private medical cover. A load of old rubbish. The private hospital is archaic compared to our new super modern NHS one. If anything goes wrong the private hospital dials 999 to get you to the NHS one. We found this out the hard way when SWMBO had a few problems after a gall bladder removal. The good old NHS stepped in and saved her!

Phil check out some of the Best of British Parks and use UK Campsite. There is life after the two clubs as far as excellent sites go.

wow, talk about bun fights, i think Mr Spadders has been given a rough time!

Im not a member of the CC but have been a member of the CCC for a number of years and am shocked at the prices mentioned on here for the CC.
In 2010 i was made redundant, but set up my own company so money was tight (at the same time as my wife going on mat leave with our 2nd!). The more expensive independent sites we loved the previous years were not an option any more so invaribly we turned back to the CCC as they offered the best combo of price/facilities.
Since we upgraded to the caravan (from long time tenters) I have always considered joining the CC as well but have alwasy been put off by the fact the sites always get booked up so early. Now throw in the price increase and its confirmed my opinion, which is a shame.

We are also weekend vanners, with a couple of weeks longer stays in the summer hols. We are completley restricted to that, through no fault of our own. Why are 'weekenders' shunned?

Also our van is a 1991 Swift. It doesnt have a shower and it doesnt have hot running water. (we use the kettle for that). It does have a gas heater but ive never used it, so Im with Mr Spanners on the cold issue, with a 5 month old, a 5 year old and a wife that constantly wears bed socks in the house theres no way we could survive a week in our van in the winter months.

Hi All,
I have worked my way through all seven pages of posts on this topic. Some people seem to have got sidetracked on the subject, which was the shocking increases of CC site prices and I too am staggered.
I intend to visit Holland and Germany this Autumn and for the first time purchased a Camping Card ACSI, the discount site fee card. When I looked at a couple of sites for my return from Dover to Devon I came across Wood Farm, Charmouth, Dorset in the Camping Card directory, the cost per night is 15 Euros (£12.60 in real money) if I show my CC ACSI card. If I used my Caravan Club Card it is £20.50 per night. This site is an Affiliated site to the Caravan Club. There are a number of Camping Card ACSI sites across the South of England, so the discount is available to any card holder. In the example I have quoted someone is taking the proverbial which begins with P and ends with double SS.

We just paid £40.50 for 3 nights at minhead were here now, what a lovely site. How anybody can say that is dear I dont know, at least with the C.C. you know what your getting, hot showers ALL day clean facilities and usually friendly wardens. Ill continue to use the CC as long as I can get a pitch for the time I want, if not ill go private. Oh and the dog goes free
