Just a question for some advice please. If your caravan was 10 years of age and needed to go back to the manufacturer for a large damp repair (where the roof meets the side panel), is it always likely to be prone then to damp? Would it be better to sell it? It’s a Sprite Quattro FB
Thank you

No,often Caravans that go back to the manufacturer come back a better caravan. Selling the caravan as it is will only get you a rock bottom price, whereas once repaired and no damp readings will give it a better value

Most unusual for a caravan of that age to be returned to the manufacturer for a repair. Have Swift confirmed such under warranty ( if it’s still just covered by any warranty). A main dealership should be able to repair it, and there are high quality repair shops around the country., plus AWS/MCEA techs . If you give your location then we can recommend repair shops known to members of the Forum.

But to answer your question, yes any caravan can be susceptible to damp, but if damp checked regularly it can be caught early and repaired at much reduced cost by AWS or MCEA technicians..

If it was bought new by the present owner then it will be covered for 10 years if it has full service history., If the dealer feels it is to bigger job, it will go back to the factory, which if mine would be preferable.

Read the Swift warranty very carefully. If you have complied with all the Ts&Cs let Swift take it back for repairs.

Trying to sell a caravan with damp will cost you a lot of money.

Swift issued a Lifetime Water Ingress Warranty on the Elegance and Elegance Grande based products from 2019 model year. Quite a major step forward for a caravan manufacturer! I wonder how many claims they have dealt with 🤔

I also wonder what the precise terms and conditions are for that Lifetime warranty. What are the exclusions is a key factor, just like non OEM car warranties.

Applies to original owner only, for as long as they keep the caravan fully serviced.

Permanent sealed body joints refers to Sikaflex type of sealant joints, not rubber seals which as window seals. The standard for other models Is 10 years first owner,
I think I know what a permanent body joint is compared to a rubber sealed fitment.

One points to note :- recently a client approached me to repair a seized wheel on his twin axle 2024 Swift , The dealer refused to send an engineer out ( 15 miles) to free the wheel so it could go back once again for a damp repair on the side locker doors ( yes plastic construction , but water pooling on floor). It turned out to be a seized bowden cable ( which I replaced in about a hour ) they stated that as it was part of the braking system is not covered under warranty. Unbelievable or what ? both the water ingress and brake issue all for the sake of a £35 bowden cable .I told him to take the cable with him and have them explain which bits of the trailer are actually covered.

For those interested have a read of the Swift definitive document

What is a Permanently sealed joint?
Sikaflex ? Welded?
One for the Lawyers perhaps?
Is it really worth the paper it’s written on🙉
