Caravan Insurance Recommendations.

Bit of a dilema? We are approaching Insurance Renewal time. This last year we have used C&MC along with Membership tossed in because Saga withdrew from Caravan Insurance who we had been with for many years. We had an issue last September that we had to make a claim for, a substantial one. We are C&C members and have been for a good few years, mainly because their THS's suit us. Are there any recommends who we can use this year please?

Are you saying that you had an issue with CMHC insurance last year, or that an issue led you to make a claim?

I tended to only use CMHC or CCC dependant on quotation as both have good reports in dealing with claims. CaravanGuard are mentioned regularly the Forum but not in relation to how well or otherwise they deal with claims. That to my mind is a key criteria choosing an insurer.

I was always happy with CAHC for many many years and can recomend them from a claim handling point of view. I had a few smallish claims and one very large one, £20,000ish. Very professional and none were held against me in subsequent years. But I think I paid a premium for that.

After going seasonal they were no longer competitive.

No, we had no problem with CMHC, it was a small claim regards the caravan.

Caravan Guard here, had a £3k claim last year, paid out instantly and handled exceptionally well*. My premium didn't go up this year so win win.

* They are still chasing the other party who is being really obstructive even though he was at fault.

Been with CAMC arranged caravan insurance for decades. Not the cheapest but when the claim happens they are simply the best. Three years ago we had a hefty bash. They and their engineer dealt with the whole repair so painlessly and stress free. The repairer, Martin Lovell and his son Sam did a brilliant job.
Note also the CAMC cover tends to be far more flexible and broader in range than the rest.

MJ Lovells are superb.
I snapped the jockey wheel handle off when “nipping it up” outside our house in Oxfordshire when we were just about to set off to Old Oaks near Glastonbury for two weeks.
Panic stricken and embarrassed, ( it was only our second time going away with a caravan), I rang the dealer where we got it from to get some advice and they said try to find somewhere enroute to get the repair done.
Quick search and I found them, called them and they agreed to move other work to help us out.
We got to them about 2 pm on the day ( it was a Saturday), and they did it for us in 40 minutes….. they charged me £42!!!
I gave them £20 on top of that as a thanks for helping us out in our hour of need.
They saved our holiday, and I went back to them to get new drums and brakes last year.

We moved from CAMC to Ripe (Aviva underwriters).
No complaints to date and just received this year's renewal notice and it's gone up by a whole pound!
Have they dealt with a claim yet ? Many reviews give high marks to insurers but in reality folks are just reviewing how easy it is to take out the insurance. Real info on performance can be obtained from the Ombudsman site/FCA.

We found that as complete newbies to caravanning about 3 years ago, the ‘big 2’ clubs weren’t interested in you ( quotes of 3X what we eventually paid) without a couple of years experience/ no claims.
Paid a fair price to Caravan guard, which has remained pretty flat since then.
Happily, no experience of a claim though.

Been with Caravanguard for years always a good premium New for Old and no increase this year, when renewed a week ago, as price of the Caravan new has not increased.

I'm thinking Caravan Guard. Our Issue last September was our fridge caught fire. Luckily I was in the van and the Fire Extinguisher dealt with it very quickly. I won't bore you with details but contact with CAMHC was very good to be fair. The process was very hard to comprehend, Two Companies employed for claims handling and a separate Assessor so 4 Bodies if you like for a 5k claim. After to-ing and fro-ing. claim initially declined! After our appeal, we were grateful to receive 3/4's and we had to cover cost of a new fridge and fitting. £1400 thereabouts. It was assessed as an electrical fault when it was clearly a gas fault. Our only other claim was when our new 2004 caravan was in for service back in 2006 and ours and 30 others went up in flames while it was parked up in the Dealership where we bought it. Lost out big time to the tune of £6k that time? So you can see overall, we that we've never really felt comfortable after 18+ years of always insuring our caravans? Our caravan now, has been fully repaired to an amazing level by Tavistock Caravans and we just need some Summer sunshine to put this trouble behind us.

Caravan guard just asked for pictures of the damage and a quote for repair. Sent both off, was given the go ahead immediately. Because there was a long delay in getting it fixed (we were using the van) they kept sending me emails asking if it had been done and when could they pay!
