Hi. We"ve just started to look for a site for Aug 09 and have found Trevella Park in Newquay Cornwall, has anybody stayed there, were looking for 2 pitches (caravan and lg tent) going with the brother-in-law and his family, we would like to be near the beach, either by foot or car,and it must have a pool for the rug rats.Any help or info would be great. I know its early to look but the good sites get booked up quickly.

we stayed in a static at holywell bay last year & apparantly the touring facilities were not great. stayed at newperran this year which would have been great if the weather had been better. it's midway between newquay & perranporth. has an on site swimming pool, great park & a small games room, my 2 kids loved it. there is also a decent pub & cafe. check out caravansitefinder for reviews. if we were going down to cornwall again, we would go back to this site. hope this helps

Have a look at Sea View International. It has a large seperate field for games etc, a large sun-trap terraced pool. You can walk down the lane (quite steep) to the beach. Mevagissey is near for restaurants, harbour etc. We too like a high quality park but without the razmataz of some of the big group parks.

hi elizabeth, there is no beaches within walking distance. it's 15 minute drive to the nearest beach. we liked it because it was central.

You can walk to the beach from Trevella by going down the footpaths to the Gannel estuary and then along the sand to Crantock beach.

You can use the beach alongside the Gannel although the water can be fast for small children, but Crantock beach is lovely.

Crantock village is nice although very busy with people and cars in the season.

Don't be fooled into thinking you can walk into Newquay though, it looks very close on the maps but it's not. Unless you are prepared for a long walk.

There used to be a passenger ferry which went across the estuary and enabled you to get to Pentire head and the west end of Fistral beach. Not sure if that still exists.

The site is big and potentially busy but well appointed and well kept. Very easy access by rd to the rest of Cornwall.

Hi ,have a look at Polmanter at St Ives, we stayed there in Aug, although it was wet, the site was spotless, as were the toilets,it's a 15 min walk to St Ives with busses laid on for return, you can also see your pitch on their web site, also nice warm pool and pub /restaurant,good luck Paul

Pauls note has stimulated a thought (doesn't happen often so please enjoy) A question I should have asked before is will your party have dogs?

I've been to Polmanter and I would agree with Paul that it is a very good site, although the walk into St Ives is a fair step carrying your beach gear, and even further comming back for some reason ! :0)

Problem with St Ives is that all the main beaches are dog free so unless you can hide the Chihuahua in your picnic basket you will have to get in the car and drive at least 10 miles and driving around that area can me a nightmare in busy periods.

Newquay to Padstow has at least 50% dog friendly beaches so everyone is catered for.

I think it's a bit sad that they have made such sweeping restrictions and can't make a small piece of 1 beach dog freindly. I love St ives but simply can't go there any more.

Same problem at Falmouth, no dog beach at all.

Stayed at Trevella many years ago and enjoyed it. A couple of years ago went to a Rally at Hendra a site just outside Newquay. The rug rats will love the pools and its slides/flumes etc Large and commercial but good facilities

We were in St. Ives at the end of June, beginning of July and there is one small beach between the harbour beach and Porthgwidden beach where there were 3 of 4 families with dogs. We commented at the time that it must be the only one in St. Ives where dogs are allowed and they were having a great time in the water.

Hi All, Thanks for some great feed back, will have a look at the sites you mentioned, have looked on google earth, to see if near a beach this was very good. Answer to your question, NO not taking the dog , my son is staying at home with her, we often have problems looking for beaches to take he dog, we usually have to go out of season, bt at least its quiet.

Hi Elizabeth

We have been to that area loads of times and went this year in May, we drove on to Trevlla and it was ok, it depends what you want? We stay on a site near there, it is ou favourite site in that area its called Trevornick, it is within walking distance of one of the most fab beaches at Holywell Bay, it has a lovely outdoor pool, clubhouse, restarant, and next door they own the theme park which is called Holywell Bay. It is brilliant for children. It also has a fishing pond and golf course. It is a beautiful site. The prices are similar to Trevella so we thought it was worth paying that little bit more to stay on Trevornick. They have a website and you can look at the webcam and do a virtual tour. I have told lots of friends about this site and they have all loved it.If you do decide to go you can chose your own pitch when you book, I would recommend Pond Field this is nice and quiet and the pitches are a decent size.
