Can anyone offer advice on the following problem---The fire ignites without any problem and the flame burns blue but when it increases the flame to generate more heat the flame start to make a popping sound and turns from blue to yellow back and forth as if it is not getting the right mixture. I have checked for any blockage in the vent underneath the van and the roof vent but both seem clear.

...... the most likely cause, bearing in mind the heaters age is that the gauze which is part of the burner has rusted to the extent that parts of it are missing allowing the flame to travel to the jet.

For safety reasons I would get this seen to by a qualified person

Gary is the expert on these heaters and may read your Post and respond on this forum or you can visit .......

No need for me Gafferbill, your diagnosis is spot on

Solution then is a new burner, which I have, problem though is changing it, not easy due to fragility of one or two of the old parts which must be treated very carefully to avoid damage.

It must then be done by someone familiar with the heater, it's not a DIY job
