Cheap Dust Caps (dont buy them)

My son bought me new silver dust caps for my car about six month ago (from the £1 shop). I thouth that was nice and put them on. Went to increase the tyre presure for our trip to France and could not get them off. I tryed everthing, but they would not budge. I had to renew all the valves at a cost of £40.

Dont buy them.

Hi Paul,

I'd probably be a bit more lenient of the pound shop.

I was talking with the tyre fitter who was replacing the two rear tyres on my E-class and he said "Have you heard the latest kiddies game? Super-glueing dust caps onto valves."

He'd repaired three cars that morning with "jammed on" dust caps and was expecting more during the summer.

I wouldn't call the dust caps cheap either. My son had the same problem although it didn't cost him anything because the tyres were being replaced at the same time. A good point to bring up though.

The tyre fitter said it was two different metals that had fused together. You can get better ones with brass inserts. He said always brass to brass.

Whenever I have had my Dustcap(s) stolen/lost I go to the local bike shop and purchase some of the black plastic ones, as the mountain bike inner tubes use the same size valve,

best regards, Martin
