checking out tow bar

I have an older merc and it has an towbar already fitted, with one electric connection, due to collect the van on saturday and wanted to check the towbar was ok before....where/how can this be done. If it does need replacing can you get the parts yourself or where would should you take it? sorry very new to all this and a wee bit scared too!

Hi - If I was you I would take the car to the nearest towbar fitting centre and have it checked out not only for electrics but for the fit to car. They should without trying to have you buying a new bracket etc. check things out for a nominal fee.

From your post it would appear that the electrics were fitted for towing a trailer (single socket) or it is so old that the caravans in them days did not need the 12S socket.

if you are nervous about this get it checked by an expert. What price is safety. IMHO
