Gas

Also, ask if the rubber gas pipe to the gas cylinder in the front locker is legal - believe it or not, we bought a brand-new 2024 Swift and found out a year later on it being serviced, that it had been fitted with a 2019 rubber pipe on manufacture that was illegal!

That's what the service engineer told me; there must be something in his manual/training/regulations for gas fitting that stipulates that a 2019 gas pipe must be changed to the latest version, probably safer. You might say it's health & safety gone mad, but for the sake of a few pounds, I agreed to change it.

2019 pigtail still has 3 years of life assuming it was fitted in 2019, if it was fitted last year then (now) it starts from fitting date and not manufacturing date. IMO it was easier to go by production date, as it’s there on the hose, where as anyone can say oh it was only fitted last year (for hoses out of day that is)

Damien (moderator and caravan service engineer) once explained the logic supporting hose lifing. A hose correctly packaged and stored has minimal deterioration. But once gas starts to flow its acidic nature combined with pressure starts to age the hose polymer. That’s why hose life tends to be quoted from install date not manufacturing date. Caravan makers carry out basic checks using gas, so for a new caravan hose life starts on completion of build. It’s easy to see why confusion exists as it’s totally the opposite to tyres.

@otherclive Yes I know this, but the guidance changes, it went from manufacturing date and five years, then manufacturing date and 10 years then last year from fitting date and 10 years. The problem is, if someone goes to a storage yard and doesn’t see the owner the only time line to them is the manufacturer date 🤷‍♂️

My last two, New caravans on pick up, the dealer did not supply a new hose, even on show round.
On the last walk around prior to leaving, mentioned where is the gas pigtail. Went back in and argued that a £27k van should have a £12 pigtail supplied.
