We are looking to go away for Christmas too but haven't decided where yet. Two years ago we went to Broadway CC site in the Cotswolds and we quite enjoyed it. I think the next time I'll do my own Xmas dinner in the van though, we booked to eat out and it was such a disappointment.
We were surprised at all the lights/decs people had in and around their vans, they really do make an effort don't they?
Does anything go on at Exmoor House - is it Devon way?
Hi Valerie We do our own xmas lunch. what we have done is made some chicken rolls stuffed with sausage meat along with pistashio nuts wrapped in bacon, before hand and then you just pan fry them off till hot, all the veg and trimings go with it.
We were supprised the first year as well with all the decorations but last year we joined in LOL
We did do a turkey in the van oven new year 2 years ago (at home) with visitors, the oven in the house broke on new years day so off with the legs and it went in a treat, it did take a bit longer but it all worked out.
Exmoor house is just inside somerset on the devon border.
We've been away between Christmas and New Year from 26th to 31st for the last four years (since we got our first caravan Oct 03). This year however will be our first on site actually on Christmas Day. We have been to Oxon Hall, Shrewsbury, Oxford CCC, Cirencester CC and Moreton-in-Marsh CC. This year we are returning to M-in-M which we loved last year so we booked within a week of getting home. We have friends in the area (Childswickham) and love the area in all seasons. Last year the weather was mild and quite dry for most of our stay so we did lots of walking, some cycling and lots of lazing around. Its also only about a hundred mile tow and motorways for much of the way so if the weather was 'British' it shouldn't be too arduous a journey. We are really looking forward to our first proper "Christmas in the Caravan" and I've started preparing the menu (I'm a vegetarian so the skies the limit). Its quite exciting.
we normally spend the Christmas and the new year in Spain , in our section there were ,were Dutch , germans , swedes , british ,we all got on very well , cant wait to repeat it this year
We were away for Xmas a few years ago and it was brilliant, we woke on Christmas morning to find a frost over everything which made it really magical.
We took a cheap Tesco Value xmas tree with us which we had up in the awning and we decorated inside the van with tinsel (around the heki bar and window catches etc.)
We put rope lights around the outside of the awning and coloured fairy lights on the inside of the awning.
Some people even had inflatable snowmen outside the awning.
We spent christmas week last year in the 'van at Chamonix in the French Alps. Both our sons were living in the area so we decided to take christmas to them for a change.
absolutely brilliant, we used a municipal site at Taninge. The site office was manned for 12 hours each day , including xmas day! the toilet blocks were open and tropically heated with drying facilities for wet clothes etc. We never saw the temperature rise above zero for the whole time we were in France , at night it was going down to minus 14c!!!and 6 inches of snow! Both our sons joined us for a full blown family christmas day with all the trimmings. The only problem was the inlet pipe from the water barrel froze up every night and had to be thawwed out in the tropical showers while you were there. Other than that no problems. The roads were perfectly clear and the travelling was an absolute pleasure. A real white Christmas!!
