Citreon C4

My wife and I are thinking about buying a caravan. However, we have recently bought a Citreon C4 1.6 Hdi and wondered if this would be suitable as a towcar. We intend to buy something like an Eldiss 2 berth caravan. Any comments/advice would be much appreciated.

P.S have tried the What Towcar site and all I got was error messages when I input the data.

hi Dennis, either power ratings of the 1.6 hdi would easily cope with a small 2 berth, but how small you dont say.i towed ,like many others with a 90hp car(citroen zx TD)with a van that weighed 1200kg loaded.no problems at all apart from 100% ratio.just make sure your weights add up.

cheers seth

Thank Seth. I finally got the What towcar site to work and it suggests that the Eldiss Odyssey 462 we were looking at is slightly heavy for the car, giving a ratio of 106%. However, it does seem to be confusing as it said the performance would be good etc. I'm really confused with all these weight issues. Looking at my handbook for the car there are is unladen/gross kerb/maximum axle/gross train/gross trailer(with and without brakes)and finally trailer nose weight. Phew, that's a mighty lot of weight. I've towed a 15ft boat for years and never even thought about weights. We are off to have another look at caravans on Saturday and see what else is available. Thanks once again.

hi Dennis, look at max tow for a braked trailer.but you sound like your experianced,so 100% should not be a problem in my opinion.
