Citroen C5 Tourer 2.0 Diesel Sept 08

My company C5 [latest model]now @18 months old with clutch replaced at 14,000 miles aprox now having done 34,000 miles has clutch failure and Dual mass Flywheel failure again, this car having not towed a caravan since last failure was firstly blamed for failure then garage said not covered by warranty and to expect failure again before lease expires in 18 months time!!! Dual Mass Flywheels. Any other C5 Diesel failures out there? By the way car is treated like baby, no foot on clutch at lights, nor when going up and down box.

hi Ian The problem that you have with the clutch on your c5 is due to the duel mass flywheels fitted to modern diesels with manual gear boxes.The problem flywheels are made in Germany and are fitted to nearly all European diesel cars .Audi seem to be having the most problems ,with some of them giving up the ghost as low as 8000 miles. According to the .Honest John ,web site the fitting of these flywheels has been a complete disaster ,it seems to be pot luck as to how long they last ,with the way they are treated making little difference.Several UK firms can now supply solid flywheel conversion kits with a spring type clutch plate to cushion the drive The kits cost
 
I have a 2005 Citroen C5 Exclusive Estate which I've looked after myself since it was new. It's now on just over 60000 miles and around 13000 have been with our van on the back. Apart from the rear screen fault, it has given no trouble. I also belong to three Citroen forums and there has been only two mentions on the forums of DMF troubles and both of those have been attributed to abuse. One forum member who operates and maintains a fleet of C5's as taxis speaks highly of them and clutch or flywheel replacements are rarely mentioned.

Having checked the Honest John web site relating to DMF failures Citroen are not mentioned .This would suggest that they have had very few if any reports of DMF failures on Citroens.
