Best not to follow CMHC advice by using a length of wood between the scales and hitch. If it’s not straight or buckles there’s a bang. Best to raise scales on something to the hitch.

I use bathroom scales and put brick or wood under the hitch with the van just slightly higher than when hitched up then lower it onto the scales with the jockey wheel. .until jockey wheel as just clear.

I dont have bathroom scales and my gauge takes up far less room anyway.

If you buy from a dealer they should include the hook up cable and steps, if buying privately check what you are getting with the seller.
If you use bathroom scales to weigh the nose weight you need a length of wood in the hitch cut so that you measure at the height of the tow bar. using the jockey wheel gives you a reading that can be seriously out.

Using the jockey wheel doesn't give a figure that's seriously out - it's only slightly out by the same proportion as hitch to jockey to wheels - likely to be within 5kg.
