Some Coronaviruses don’t respond well to vaccines and less than full protection is acquired. Also some patients don’t respond well to the vaccine which can cause problems that could be worse than the virus itself. So the timescales being reported are realistic but still may only bring partial success. That’s why herd immunity can be a good thing.

Necessity is said to be the mother of invention, and I hope this leads to breakthrough in the race to find a effective solution. In much the same way that the Ebola crisis forced the pharmaceutical community to develop a solution, perhaps as you suggest some people may choose to be guinea pigs to help fast track research.

The yanks have started testing on people already, they passed some legislation to bypass the need to test it on animals, it wouldn’t surprise me if a vaccine is ready sooner than current thoughts, let’s face it love or loath Trump he gets things done and he’ll be pushing the American scientists to get cracking and if there are ways to speed it along he’s without doubt the person I’d put money on to achieve success, he won’t worry whether people agree or not he’ll just plough on, if he screws it up there’s nothing lost, if he succeeds it’ll make billions for the yanks and Trump will swear blind it’s his doing, believe it or not I’m not a big fan of the man but I admire his belief in himself and you can’t argue he gets results.

We going away in April and we were worried so we contacted the site that a Camping & Caravan Club and
That they are taking all precautions possible sanitising public areas regular through out the day and providing hand sanitiser in the toilet just asking people to be sensible
if you wish to cancel and rebook later in the year . what more could you want ..

I do think caravanners should think very carefully about going away under the present circumstances.

I am aware of several posts that suggest being in a caravan should provide an easily protected location to minimise the possibility of contamination, and I would generally agree with that, but I do feel that argument alone is just being a bit short sighted.

Please consider the possibility that you might become ill. Yes you may be well contained, but equally you will be cut off from your normal support infrastructure. Being "locked up" in a caravan for how many days in a relatively confined space will I suggest become very tedious. How will you collect and dispose of water, what about food and drink and gas supplies.

If the worst happens and you become seriously ill and need to be hospitalised, you're away from home which may become a real problem for relatives.

Also bear in mind that many of us are in a high risk category throughage or medical conditions.

Would it be fair to burden the site wardens with having to deal with you or possibly infected waste materials which raises a risk for them or other site users?

All I ask is that anyone thinking of going away thinks about what impact you might have on others.

HMG have asked everyone in the UK to stop all non essential travel. So a caravanning trips hardly meets the criteria of essential travel or social distancing. There will be fuel stops, food shopping or even the possibility of a breakdown. All involve unnecessary contact and undermine the Governments aim of dealing with the virus. When one hears the Chief Scientific Advisor saying the if deaths can be kept under 20000 that will be a good outcome. What he didn’t say was that people with the virus that are affected by pneumonia can have their health affected for many years afterwards. This virus is different to a cold or flu. But as there are those stockpiling food etc I guess social responsibility is in short supply in some areas.

A number of us have already cancelled pre planned trips including the spring Woosiefest.
Most sites doors remain open. My concern being away is the inability to store frozen foods whilst the food chain is under such pressure. Falling ill with the caravan on site will be very tricky for both. I do not believe it is encumbent upon the CAMC to decide whether I caravan or not. I am old enough to appreciate fighting Covid 19 is beyond me so I will follow the Government’s health advisers and keep all travel to a minimum.

The C&CC put out a letter yesterday the 17th March 2020, stating all rallies, THS, and AGMs etc, ie gatherings, are cancelled with immediate effect; presumably till further notice.

There’s more than enough doom and gloom and quite rightly so, the situation is far worse than most of us could have foreseen, I try to look for a little humour in life in the face of adversity, some object to humour when situations are so serious but personally I’m all for it, it’s knowing where to draw the line with some people, if ever I crossed the line I’d definitely like to be told.

I do agree that sometimes a modicum of humour can help in difficult situations.

It's much easier to judge how a comment is intended face to face, because you can pick up on body language and other que's. The medium of a forum does not transmit those audio/visual clues, and whilst the writer may have a wry smile on their face, readers cannot see it and can easily mistake the intention of the written word.

And whilst it did not apply on this occasion, there have been occasions when somebody has made a comment which was based shared experience with another member and may have been very humorous to those involved, but the words used can be interpreted in a very negative way by others.

With regards to the present crisis, there are people (like my wife) who will be very severely affected if others act recklessly and cause avoidable spread of the virus or cause the resources she needs to be needlessly used.

Latest information from C & C Club

Whilst at the current time we remain open, you will notice some changes when you arrive:

• All campsites are running at a maximum of 50% occupancy, with more space to promote easier social distancing between pitches
• Meets, gatherings and socialising in groups outside your travel party are not permitted
• All on-site social and communal areas will be closed
• All facilities blocks are closed, this includes toilets and showers
• A number of our Club sites will remain shut at the start of the season

These measures will be in place until at least the end of May or until further government guidance is issued.

The problem with herd immunity is that many coronaviruses don't give us long term immunity and it is not known yet what this one will do. I read last week that the Chinese had found two versions of the new one, which means a vaccine could be harder. Equally it is reported that the Russians are making good progress with vaccine developments. There is also work being done on drugs that have worked on other infections that may be helpful in curing it in vulnerable people. (I read New Scientist.)

Humour is the British way of dealing with adversity. Its what defines us and makes us the nation we are. We are probably in our darkest days since we became part French. Thats 1066 for the uneducated. We have had the great fire of London, The Black Death, World Wars one and two and Diego Maradonna, and now this lot. Whats not to laugh at.

The village of Eyam near us is famous for its self isolation during the plague. It is now swamped with tourists looking at the sites.

I am self isolating, if I get tourists in my garden when this is all over, there really will be trouble.

Sadly from what I see and read the population of this country has demonstrated little social awareness so far.

I doubt I need go into detail but hoarding is a prime example.

For my part I will not be carrying on a normal "camping" life until the crisis is over. Advice is not to travel without good reason and frankly I fail to see any justification for taking a holiday in caravan or motor-home.

The points made by some regarding the self-isolation that can be created in such circumstances completely ignores the fact that those people are likely to be moving away from home into areas where the NHS and other services are minimal - Cornwall for example.

What do you think locals will feel when they see holidaymakers using their Supermarkets and, if the worse comes to the worse, the beds in their hospitals? ( Being devils advocate, and to maybe preempt responses suggesting food can be taken along, I simply point out that the crisis with hoarding by selfish people is not so different from buying items not needed for some time to stock a motor-home).

It appals me that the main "clubs" (I use that term cautiously) are still keeping sites open. Whist they devise procedures to keep people apart the policy fails utterly to take account of the possible issues mentioned previously.

Of course "commercial" springs to mind but other businesses are forced to close and I would feel much happier if all camping, including motor-home so called "wild camping" was banned.

In conclusion - I certainly see little evidence that the great British public are demonstrating one iota of "social awareness" and frankly am appalled at the "me, me, me" attitude so widely demonstrated.
