Contaminated petrol

Have you seen today's news about the possibility of petrol being contaminated causing many breakdowns.

The Lambda (Oxygen) sensor in the exhaust system seem to be failing on many cars and is widespread (Kent to Yorkshire).

Anyone got any info.....or had a breakdown?

They have found traces of silicone in some of the fuel samples provided. Silicone is added to diesel as an antifoaming agent but is not used in unleaded. This would appear to be a possible explanation. Hope this helps.

My son works for a ford dealer, and they have had quite a few in. What has normally happened is that the ECU has shut the engine down quickly before any severe damage could be done, but some have come in where drivers have driven on the misfire and messed up the catalytic converter--whoops. Someon e is going to get some massive bills I suspect.

Tesco admitted liability on their part for this today.

I am not sure that offers much hope though-

There was an article on our local news today about a similar dispute with Tesco from 2 years ago involving water in the fuel, a guy paid out

See you lot if you had bought a diesel vehicle there would be no problem - diesel 1 petrol 0 - only goes to prove a point - Volkswagon have a new car which is claimed to be more economical than either a petrol or dual fuel vehicle. What does it run on DIESEL. I rest my case m'lord.

Colin (I'm alright jack)

I run a diesel too, but they can suffer from fuel contamination too - although they will take a wider range of quality of fuel than petrol engines.

I would rather count myself lucky on this one.

I was under the impression that diesels are always more economical than petrol and duel fuel, and the only circumstance where dual fuel shows an advantage is in places like LA where zero emissions are favoured.
