With my current situation I cannot use the petrol mower any more.
I was wondering if any of the Forum members use a cordless mower and which ,in their opinion is the best to get with a budget of up to around £300.

Same as you Damian , the old faithful petrol was getting too heavy to drag around. Courtesy of Argos The Spear and Jackson SJ 40v L.ion powered, has a roller too for stripes but not self propelled £220. Is currently a Which? Best Buy. Cuts very well and actually doesn’t take much longer than the petrol. Battery
asts one hour, then needs one hour to recharge.

Still looking for the cordless self propelled, but have to put on hold until crack in front panel of caravan is sorted

That’s almost useless run time especially as even two batteries wouldn’t cover it whilst one is charging. Must be the self propulsion aspect that drains it. I think there is a non self propelled variant.

We have the previous push along on a 60v battery. It has enough juice to first strim, then mow both front and back with about 50% left. Takes about 20 to 30 mins.

......been using an electric mower since 1976 albeit with a cable.
Had 3 mowers in that time total cost of the 3 = £150.
Current model cost £80 has a 2000 watt motor ...very powerful.
Battery models too expensive for me!

Why go cordless, you have to charge them up, batteries fail- the power runs down. The cord on mine is 15 meters long and with another 15 meters , covers all the garden front and rear.

A friend of mine brought a Black + Decker Cordless lawnmower 36V from Argos it was £370 he got medium size garden he very happy with his

We are really looking for self propelled and not petrol, but not cordless.

You would expect around 1000 cycles from a cordless lawn mower battery. Lithium batteries are so much better than the old Nicad ones which did require regular top up charges during periods of non use.

My lithium power tools can go months without a charge and one set of batteries for Bosch kit must be 7 years old. Strange this disposition re batteries there are the same concerns re EV batteries yet Toyota give 15 year warranty providing regular inspections are undertaken.

Same with our Makita lithium batteries as sometimes don't use the drill for months.

Thank you to all who have replied so far.
Whilst I would be happy with a corded mower, it is not for me, it is for my wife when I am no longer here and she would be worried about cutting through the cord.

Despite the negatives about batteries, from my experience with DeWalt batteries they perform very well and like otherclive and buckman have said sometimes they do not need charging for months and still work well.

It all depends on what your criteria are for a mower. My daughter bought a Spear and Jackson cordless 40v and it works as well as her old petrol mower even on longer and wet grass. Much easier as it requires no effort to start and its light weight enables her to move it around more easily. Trouble free over three seasons and dad does not have to do any servicing. Cost is only one aspect when people make a purchase.

When my Alko petrol one finally gets to the end of its life I will buy a cordless mower. But since it lives on Mobil 1 synthetic it should give some more years of service.

I reluctantly bought a yard force 40volt 32 cm mower plus edge trimmer, £186.19 from Amazon, I only bought the petrol mower previously a couple of years ago, lack of oxygen getting me going meant a lighter easier mower, this one is excellent, I purchased at the same time a spare battery but if I do rear lawn one day and I can just about do the front with same battery, it’s light enough even for my wife to carry it from the shed, having a petrol mower is a man thing needing a noisy engine, I’d rank the new one as good as the £650 petrol mower, I can cut the both lawns in the time it used to take to get the petrol one out.
