We are thinking of going to Corisca next September October 2009. Has anyone booked ferries from Toulon or Marsaille to get there. If so about how much did it cost etc. Did you enjoy it and was it worth the trip. We are thinking of going for about six weeks at the end of the season

Just came across this post - better late than never, I hope. We have been to Corsica five or six times, mostly solo using the SNCM ferries from various French ports. Once we took a trailer tent, and once flew (Jet2 to Nice, then local airline to Ajaccio) and rented a motorhome in Corsica. It's a wonderful place - great beaches, magnificent mountains and thankfully few Brits. However, not every part of the island is accessible to touring caravans as the roads can be very narrow and winding. We managed ok with the motorhome but along the west coast (Calanches) it was a bit hair-raising at times. Correction - it was very hair-raising all the time! The main east coast between Bastia and Porto Vechio is fine - and the best beaches are in the south east corner. Ajaccio to Bastia via Corte is also ok (don't miss visiting Restonica valley but don't attempt to drive up it with caravan!), and Ajaccio to Porto Vechio is also caravan-able. July and August (until 15th) are extremely busy, but September would be very quiet. We met a family with a large outfit who had been several times, but stuck to the east coast, staying at Villata (no longer naturist). They found the cheapest ferry route to be from Genoa to Bastia, travelling via Switzerland. But that was before the fuel price escalation. We would love to go back to Corsica, but given the complexities and limitations I think we would choose to fly and rent a motorhome again. Hope you make it, one way or another - you can't fail to have a great experience!
