It is really difficult isn’t it? On the one hand, Covid is not going away so every contact has an element of risk. On the other hand, Covid is not going away, so for how long do we choose to restrict our lives, not see family, not hug grandchildren etc in order to avoid it? I don’t have the answer, and it will be different for everyone. The daily weighing up of risk is wearing though.

Cornwall is ridiculously amazing.
The site demands mask wearing everywhere. No problem .But when every door and window in reception is wide open, the desk encased in a glass tank and the receptionist fully masked.Safer than a hospital theatre. Pubs , mostly , serve food on disposable plates wooden throw away cutlery, limited menu. Rather OTT and some double standards.
C-19 is here forever like flu. Get your jabs and be careful. My daughter , double vaccine got C19 but wasn’t very ill. Those with reduced immunity clearly and sadly have a problem but wasn’t that why we have had the flu jabs for years? ?

As a 78+ year old (with underlying serious health concerns) with a wife a couple of years younger, (but healthy) We have been ‘shielding’ (hiding from Covid) for virtually the last 18 months+, during hospital treatments etc. How long does one do it for? How long are we here for anyway? Have lived and survived dozens of various winter flu epidemics over the years, missing some, suffering some from school days to working days. We have decided to ‘gerron’ with life, (but being sensible, if that’s not beyond me!) So if they bring back lockdown shall we just sit in ‘Gods waiting room’ – Or gerron and carryon, -- pot luck! I ain’t got a ‘pitch’ booked forever!
 
My wife arrived back from Greece on Wednesday and yesterday she said she felt a bit bombed out. She had a few coughs during the night so took a covid test this morning and came up positive. At the moment she isn’t too bad at all. I suspect that she caught it from me as I’d felt below par last week, but didn’t test as I had no idea where my wife had squirreled the tests away, and didn’t mention it to her as I didn’t want to worry her.


PS edit. Just had email from friends in Canberra and both have just tested positive and their laws still require quarantine.

Please be careful that you don't contract it again. With new Covid infections currently exceeding over 3.5 million plus the Monkeypox I think we are going to start wearing oujr masks again when entering supermarkets as both of us afre extremely vilnerable. We only stoppped wearing masks in supermarkets about 2 weeks ago.
 
I had thought about going up to the Bedford River Festival, but at the last moment decided that there would just be too many people there. So we took a run up the A5 to check out a cl site, White Hall Farm, near The Narrow Boat pub , Weedon, Northampton. The Cl site is very basic but huge,

Thanks. If you avoided AIDS you should be able to avoid Monkeypox. It transmits totally differently to Covid.
 
It is now 22 days since we tested positive, and 11 since testing clear. We are still feeling drained though very slowly improving.

MIL in hospital last 24 hours. SWMBO feel fine but will be testing as soon as any symptoms arise. She will also test tonight . Probably too early to know. Hospitals very strict. One visitor, masked but no tests yet.
 
12 months yesturday saw me sitting, locked in a covid ward, watching dad die from covid, I had to beg the ward sister to let me sit with him, my mum had covid and was not allowed to say goodbye, loosing someone is hard enough but to have to do it without loved ones to support was too hard, I'm a very tough person but still don't think I've come to terms with that experience,
My point with that is that during that 24hr period, I sat with dad without any ppe, I refused to let his last few hours to be with me in a plastic apron and mask.
I remember coming out of the ward thinking well, that's me going to be poorly with covid. I was fine. I did contract the new variant in Jan, felt no worse that a heavy cold.
As a construction director, the amount of time lost to this new variant is killing the workplace yet we allow people to work with coughs and colds!
Not sure what my message is but I do feel we need to move on.

I too have now tested positive so I guess it was my wife who targeted me. Darned inconvenient as she’s now using the other large bedroom and I had started to prepare it for decorating. That’s put the PMP to rats, should have spent more time on risk assessment 😂

Since I started with symptoms last Monday I have been doing a LFT daily and uploading the results to HMG and the NHS Covid 19 app. My wife has been doing the same though her symptoms started a day before mine. Since then the NHS Covid 19 app has been giving us a countdown to days left. My wife’s countdown finished at 2359 last night and mine finishes at 2359 tonight. But I have difficulty knowing what the countdown actually means.

I input todays test results which is still mildly positive expecting the countdown timer to reset but no it still shows 2359 tonight. Quite frankly it doesn’t really give any useful information or guidance I really wonder what it’s aim is.

So irrespective we have bought our tickets for this weekends local charity event at Nick Masons country house. Ferraris and BBQ with dry weather can’t be bettered. 🤞

I think the number of people reporting Covid infections have probably dropped by 25 % or more, if you had mild symptoms, and had to keep three kid going to school, I believe that person will just carry on with normal life. Older folk who do not go to work will be more likely to stay in until all symptoms have disapeared. Some will just think they have a summer cold. Two friends of mine have been hit hard last week, but not sure if they informed the covid ONS. They stayed at home.
We don't report cases of Flu unless your taken to hospital with it.

Our symptoms were just like a head cold for a couple of days, combined with a racking cough. But that abated quite rapidly. Just a residual feeling of low energy but that’s now improved too. Like you really not sure what uploading results does other than give data on location and age etc.
 
I thought the waste of money reporting your Covid tests had halted 🙃. Give the money to our NHS staff working at the coal face

It’s not costing us anything as the test kits were supplied free. What isn’t clear is the advice for testing once you have tested positive. But we don’t plan on any more, as it has been seven and six days respectively since symptoms first arose. So time to get back to normal life. Since Wednesday the only places I’ve been were dog walking in the woods, HRC and collecting some paint. All well away from others.

The test kits cost HMG. I was thinking of all the Whitehall personnel analysing the submitted data
 
A long standing friend of ours was admitted to Bath RUH a week last Sunday for cardiac care. He was on the list for a double bypass and valve replacement. The operation can’t be carried out at the RUH so he was awaiting a slot at Bristol the regional Center. So given his condition the specialist thought it best to stay in the RUH until a slot became availabl. Last Saturday evening he was notified of a slot at Bart’s so an ambulance took him down. He had the operation on Monday afternoon. The complication was that when his wife went in to see him on Saturday she didn’t feel “ too great”. Sunday she tested covid positive, and advised the hospital. They still decided to go ahead with his operation given the balance of risks. So he had his operation on Monday afternoon, into ICU where he then tested positive for Covid. He’s still in ICU which should only have been for 24 hours and he is very unwell. So if only his wife had tested herself before visiting, and/or cancelled visiting anyway if she didn’t feel great. Hopefully he will pull through, but at what cost to the NHS, and his wife’s emotions.
 
At Worcester hospital they are very understaffed and also a shortage of beds due to building or renovation work. They could not have pick a worst time!
Mrs B was in A&E for 2 days before they moved her to a ward. In that ward of 2 days and then moved her into the correct ward for her condition.
No issue with specialists seeing her but needs a nurse to help her move around as she cannot walk and unfortunately nurses not available when she really needs them. Not the fault of the NHS, but of the times we live in!
Strangely in various debates NHS does not seem to be a priority?
