You are correct Steve W.

Not all mechanics are robbing ba'ards, but at least you admit that some are.

I'm not able to make a mistake re my cars safety in the eyes of the law but as customers we're supposed to except mistakes from professional mechanics and pay up and look happy. Thanks for explaining.

Having paid for my "high spec" car I expect it to work, servicing/maintenance is not cheap and mistakes are not acceptable when it's our lives at stake.

My cars are regularly serviced and our cars are set-up before they go in to a garage to try and make sure the job is done completely

We had a customer who painted lines with Tippex on his sump plug , filters etc.

The mechanics would carry out the service properly and then paint new lines on in Tippex , so funny.

I had some of those, in the end my fitters refused to work on them, so I asked them to go else where, maybe they came to you, as from your username you appear to be quite close to me. In the end I decided that good mechanics were harder to find than good customers, let alone the ones that think they are just perfect in every way.

People do it as garage staff in many cases are not trustworthy!

If your fitters were not prepared to be checked on by the PAYING customer what did they have to hide?

My wife and I have had quite a few cars over the years. Amongst other in 30 plus years of joint motoring we've had a car returned as serviced when it did't even move from where she parked it until she went to collect it.

Oil not changed, charged for shoes and pads when only front pads were changed.

Wrong exhaust box fitted and only found when it caused an MOT failure, took back to the garage where I was told it had been fitted by a "cowboy", only problem was the guy telling me was the one that fitted it! They paid for the MOT failure!

Charged for full service which included diagnostic check when the diagnostic equipment was not working.

Don't start me on caravans. I have a guy come to the house he does the proper job that his old employer wouuld not let him do!
