......according to reports we are lead to believe that the retail price should be falling because there has been a fall in the wholesale price.
The lowest price here in Mid Sussex seems to be 174.9/litre.

What price is it where you live?

About the same here in TQ12 , pay a bit more further out in the countryside though.

In the Frome area where we were for two weeks until yesterday Asda was 172.7, Sainsburys 173.9, and most others between 176.9 and 179.9 mainly towards the higher end.
Here in Harrogate Morrisons is 172.6, Sainsburys 173.9, Tesco Esso station 174.9, and a Spar Esso (usually noted as one of the most expensive) also 174.9. We don't have a Shell or BP around here for comparison, but we did pass some on the Fosse Way coming back at 185.6!! (All for diesel)
Funnily enough I did note that some that I would have expected to be 179.9 were 177.9 so could there be a trend starting?

They are very quick to hike up the prices even though the tanker has not arrived at any port to offload the oil. However when price drops they wait until it is deliver to a service station befroe deciding whether to drop the price or not. We filled up last week on Monday at a Murco and it was £1.697.

Staggering difference throughout between diesel and E5 unleaded - we can recall when diesel was generally a few pence the cheaper.

Anywhere between £1.70 and £1.80 in Oxfordshire. The cynic in me says the prices will stay about where they are. Every so often we get these price surges for one reason or another, then everyone gets used to it and it it doesn't come back down.

There was an item in the press a few weeks ago.
Pre pandemic garages were making around 5-6p per litre (I think that was on petrol.)
Post pandemic - like now - they are making 16-18p per litre.
Who says they are not ripping us off?

The Garage down the road on A5 diesel is 189.9 a litre, is this the dearest in the country?

I'm currently touring around Wiltshire and most filling stations I've passed have been just a whisker under £1.80ltr. Although I've visited an Asda and a Morrisons, neither, unfortunately, had pumps. But Bill is right! When the world oil price rises, the filling stations promptly up their prices. When the oil market falls - they don't appear to notice.
