Euro , where do you actually get your facts from if I may be as bold?

You seem to ignore the fact that I've worked for a company dealing with in excess of 2 1/5 MILLION incidents a year for over 20 years as though I dont know a thing.

I've no reason to grumble about my current car , a Disco 3 , anyone can take that piece of detail and form an oppinion on its worth.

I'm ducking out of this now as its getting pointless.

With equal respect euro, I did not say that you are stopping people making their own choice!!

I am not concerned with reports on reliabilty plucked from the internet, and hearsay information. What I am concerned with is, somebody asked for views on reliabilty of LR, and I gave that person MY experience - which is a good one, and every time I voice my opinion, you try to belittle it with your "first hand experiences"!

I will not contribute any further with this thread!!

Wendy you will never convince Euro, as Land Rover cost him to much money.

Husband and I had Disco and Range Rover at the same time as Euro, it was not just the problems with the cars but the attitude of the dealers and Land Rover in the south east.

Euro and my sister inlaw hired a Disco 3 when they were here a year ago, the car was just a problem and only had a few hundred miles on the clock when they collected it.

Yesterday we all went to the NEC show, Land Rover was discussed as the Bowler rally raid car is Land Rover based. General opinion of current LR with hubby and race pro's does not support your view.

It's a relative of my husband who sells Land Rovers we could get a Really good price. But we all know the score, I drive a GL Merc and and BMW road car and as Euro said, at their holiday home James has and a new X5 in Florida.

Enjoy your Disco Wendy, Emmy and I have banned Euro from any more LAnd Rover comments.

i have long admired the boxy looks of the latest freelander, i find the new disco too large for my use.

However every survey on reliablity place LR at or near the bottom. This applies to new and used.

I was hopeing the ford ownership would have raised the game, but i guess not, a quick look at the forums will confirm that ,as you have found.

Strange how owners of reliable LR shout foul?

But the evidence is overwhelming, and the verdict is guilty. Dont buy!

I owne a Xtrail, noted for failing turbos, prior to modifications. Mine hasnt failed. But many have. This has been reflected in the surveys. These are facts.

Conclusion.

Honda, and Lexus are at the top of the tree, LR are at the bottom.

Buy a LR increase your chances of buying a lemon, buy Honda too increase your chances of trouble free motoring.

Its not rocket science!

Thanks for that Ray.

As I said before a great shame neither Ford nor BMW did anything to improve reliability.

I accept some people have had no problems but equally there are too many with problems.

I've abandoned the idea of a Disco 3, sorry.

cheers

Alan

I have a friend who had 2 disco 3's replaced under warranty. The last one went before the plate could be transferred from the first car. He then took a sport from them and all seemed to be well.

Meeting up at New Year I asked how he was getting on with it only to be told he got shot of it 2 months ago. He had went into the garage to start it up and the red suspension light came on. The same fault that occurred on the previous 2 cars.

My father loved his Range Rover but had to trade it in as it was so unreliable. 3 times I had to go and bring his caravan home as Land Rover will only recover the car. Great service after you have spent 70k.

However to balance things up I noticed that Autocar magazine had given back their long term Freelander 2 and they remarked at how reliable this car had been noting that it had coil and not air springs.

My father took my advice and switched to a Gl but the car does not have the soul of the Range Rover and after they got off the ferry at Dover 3 days before Christmas ready to head home to Scotland the gearbox packed up.

Mind you at least MB customer service was what you would expect.

Thanks for all your replies.

We have decided to continue with plan A ie run the Sorento ad infinitum.

She's 3.5 years old and touch wood been brilliant.

It's hard to justify capital expenditure in these dark times and teh Sorie does everything we ask of her.

Cheers

Alan
Great decision to continue to run your Sorento if well maintained it will last a lifetime of reliable use.It will tow the caravan with the minimum of fuss carry you and four adults in considerable comfort. The money saved on the proposed change of vehicle can be used to enjoy your touring.
