Do you remove your Dashcam in sunny weather

Now that the Sun has returned and we may be using windscreen sun covers inside the car I wonder if users remove the dash cam as it will be between the sunscreen and the windscreen, and potentially get very hot. There are other car sensors in that area ,but they are an OEM fitment whereas the dash cam is an after market accessory. Cannot find anything in the car's owners handbook about not using windscreen sunshades inside the car.

It may well be a sensible idea. But I just leave mine and it has been in 35 degree heat. (And hotter in the car). Reason. Life’s too short.

So far it has not been a problem.

It just sort of dawned on me as with caravan reflective blinds I always tended to not have them full closed to reduce the likelihood of damaging the windows of the caravan.

Just to tag onto this thread....

Mrs V says if I save up my pocket money I can get a decent dash cam. I'm thinking about the Nextbase 322.

Any comments on this one? I've tried cheapy ones and basically think they're rubbish.

I think mine is a Next base 322 WG. Fantastic little bit of kit, about 140⁰ of vision, good at night. Adjustable G force for roundabouts and potholes.

Personally prefer the 522gw and think it is worth the extra for the higher res.

Mine gives trouble free service. And has done for years. Even in the hot car.

In our car we have the Nextbase 622 which is so much easier to set up. Both cars have front & rear cameras.

You probably have a point but not one I had ever previously thought about. There is of course more electronics in many rear view mirrors also exposed to this heating as in both our own vehicles.

My suspicions would be these products are all built much the same irrespective of their intended markets, and that must involve some considerably hotter from sun radiation markets than our kit could ever see. From that I feel your point is not a particular area of concern.

Our Disco's Garmin has seen 9 years use on this car and one on its predecessor. [ purchased late 2015]. This includes use throughout France and a bit in the north of Spain. I habitually use an aluminumised screen when its left out in the summer sun.
The dashcam is still working, and so is its 3M film bonded mounting. We also have a Garmin in the Golf, with just the same timespan, both from 2015 & having the same trouble free outcome, though this vehicle has not travelled out of the southern counties of the UK.

I’ve got a Nextbase 522 GW and it doesn’t need a smartphone to set it up. The recordings can be accessed if required by removing the SD card and reading from a computer or tablet. Very good piece of kit with good nighttime performance too.

The 522 is definitely a better than the 380!

As it happens I've just acquired a cheap dash cam that attaches to the rear mirror. I'm going to try and tested in the next day or so but just looking at it I suspect it won't be any good. Really intended for a LHD car and the electronics box behind my mirror will block most of the field of view. Plus I'll lose my automatic dimming feature.

FWIW: it's rated at...

Storage -10 to +60
Operation+5 to +60
Humidity 15 to 65%

My sincere apologies as I was geting mixed up between the awful 380 and the 322. The 322 is a good dashcam.
The Nextbase 380 is designed for commercial vehicles with both front and rear cameras integrated. . It also costs £349 is so much more expensive than the car dashcam.

The better res is the big thing. Changes from a blur, to a chance of reading a number plate.
Yes that's a big plus along with the polarising lens filter that will have quite an impact with sun glare directly and reflectively off the screen.
At the price difference these two points alone IMO are well worth it.

The better the recorded info is the better the case re supporting insurance claims, the whole point in having dashcams for most of us.

Why do you think the 380 was designed for commercial vehicles? They are fitted as standard in cars by some dealerships.

As said because that is what Nextbase, the designers of the product themselves, claim.

That some standard car dealers fit them has to be questioned on logic grounds if not simply financial greed as there are more the correct choices out there.
Shows the benefit of knowing what you are buying.

On the subject of dashcams, IMO the rear ones are of at least as valuable to have as the forward facing. And on this rear viewing I way prefer those that achieve this mounted at the rear with the much wider field of view they give rather than those that try to get a view from the position near the rear view mirror.
I use Nextbase 212s repurposed as rear view dashcams.
These together with a camera warning label, "helps" if not cures most tailgaters, other than the thicker ones. You see the moment of recognition when about to get into the boot they twig what the label and camera are there for!

Strangely the 380 is more expensive than some of the better other Nextbase camaras? Even the top of the range 622 is cheaper and a lot easier to use than the 380?

Might possibly have been the motivation behind your dealer selling it???? ;)
