We went to Dornafield C.C. site in November. Alongside the gate to the dog area was a dumps bin and a bin with plastic dump bags for all to use. Yes, you got it, still loads of dumps where the idle b******s couldn't be bothered to pick up.

I was at Ebury Hill C&CC site a few years ago and at the end of the dog walk was the usual dump bin. At the bottom of the post it was fixed to was one of the biggest dog dumps I've ever seen. Now if that wasn't rubbing the wardens nose in it, (pardon the pun) I don't know what was. I would have loved to rub the owners nose in it, literally :O)

Our Springers ae part of our family and go everywhere with us . They love caravanning and are well behaved.I did notice last summer some older folk with "toy" dogs,( not wind up!) letting them foul the grass on site and not picking up. A shame because they are the ones who get the rest of us a bad name.

Yes. I am up for a pet section.

Cheers

Alan

I am surprised that there are so many dog owners with caravans and children. All adverts for secondhand caravans state "No Pets,No Smokers, No Children!!!!!! Amazing!!!

A friend has a Boa Constrictor snake, they called in the vet as it was not eating and they woke to find it next to them in bed ,straight and stiff as a board but still alive, they had to have it put down, the vet told them it was measuring them up to eat them ! That must be why you never see pet snakes in Caravans ! Just wonder,if you can take cats, dogs , horses to Ireland with no problems, with their well known lack of snakes, I wonder if you can take your pet snake over there ? Ignoring the question , 'why would you ?'

Over the years, we have always taken our pets with us simply because. 1: they are part of the family and 2: it was 2 dogs & a european eagle owl( which most people are afraid to feed ) she was always kept it a large dog cage in the awning and when taken out she was on a lead tied to her perch. the trouble we had was irresponsible dog owners who let their dogs run free around campsites and would try to attack her.Sadly she's no longer with us. But we still take the dogs and wouldn't dream of going with out them

I have my van advertised with the familiar "no pets/children etc. Although we always take the dog when we go away she sleeps in her bed in the awning so the caravan has never had pets in it. We tend to live in the awning ourselves anyway and only use the van for sleeping, cooking and ablutions!

Alan - when I was studying canine psychology, I spent a week with our local dog warden. I'm sorry to say that the people we 'caught' not clearing up after their dogs were older people.

However, as I say, I only spent a few days with the warden so wouldn't like to stereotype older dog owners.

As an 'older' dog owner I can't understand why people don't clean up after their dogs. Doesn't it stand to reason that if you walk your dog over more or less the same route every day you are more likely to step in your own dogs mess the next day than most other people? After 8 years of using my local park twice a day I would be knee deep in the stuff if i wasn't a 'responsable'owner.

Well from my experience Lisa it's not "older dog owners" but owners (I hate that word because I don't own my dogs, more the other way around)of large breed dogs. Now whether this is because large dogs leave dump mountains and the smaller dogs dumps aren't as easy to spot I'm not sure.

To sum up then, from both our experiences, it's the "older owners" with large dogs who are the guilty ones :O)

Hehheh!!!!!!

Ummmm, I'm just kiddin' incase theres any sensitive types reading this ;O)

Hi Chris - I totally agree with you, I can't understand why people don't pick it up either.

I've found an excellent park for training and exercising my dogs. It's bordered by a fence, has a car park, you have a good alround view and can see if any other people are bringing their dogs onto the park. It's level with no potholes and the ground has a good covering of grass which is mowed regularly. However, I've often come across dog muck which people have failed to pick up. I do pick it up myself because I really appreciate being able to use this park and don't want dogs being banned from it as a result of a few lazy people.

Regards

Lisa

Hi LB

I was just quoting what I saw with my own eyes after spending a week with the dog warden. He issued a warning to one old lady (allowed her dog to foul on the street) and we saw her a couple of days later and she allowed her dog to foul again and made no attempt to pick it up so she got a ticket and was ordered to pick the dog mess up there and then with the bag provided by the warden.

Another old lady with a spaniel said she didn't realise she could be prosecuted for not picking up after 'her dog' because she was walking her grandaughters dog and therefore didn't actually own it.

Last year, we were on Chapel Lane because Diesel was entered in Crufts, there was a woman with about ten or 12 fluffies, she was walking them and she managed to pick up after them whilst still keeping them all under control on leads!

In Cornwal the other year, Phil got talking to a couple who had four collies and were pitched next to us. Anyway, when they left, where their awning had been was covered and I mean covered with dog mess from their dogs. Phil cleared it up. Lazy people.

The worst offender on one of our regular walks is a great Dane, whose owner refuses to pick it up cos he says he would need a shovel, and "besides, it keeps the dog warden in a job". !

Back in the 90s Her Ladyships penfriend came over to visit us, infact she came four times until outstaying her welcome lmaaoo, and taking her to different parts of the city was an embarrassment. Places like the Castle Green, alongside the river, were covered in dumps, infact most park land. You really had to walk like a demented crab to avoid it. Since then it's vastly improved and thankfully, at least here, the majority of dog owners do pick up. I believe what is left is from the late night walkers. Some places I've visited throughout the country still need educating though.

My former house backed on to a park, I had a gate with direct access which was great and like having an extended garden. Only part of it, which is fenced off, can you let your dog off the lead but some who thought they were above the law carried on letting their dogs roam as before until they got done. I must admit it made my day seeing it in the local paper.

I have three dogs and I realise some people hate dogs so I don't want to give them any ammo to have a go at dog owners so I comply with the law.

We don't have a dog now after losing our 15 year old retriever a couple of years ago. I would like to think, being part of the older generation, that we were equaly responsible in clearing after our dog as any other group in society.

Why is it that some want to put labels on certain groups....

Some teenagers are yobs and tearaways but it does'nt mean we should mass all teenegars together but to listen to some in our society you would think they were all the same.

Some parents with children think they have a divine right to have a double size parking space at the supermarket because they are far more important than anyone else. And, the supermarkets suck up to them. Why, because it is politically correct to do so.

Some Disabled badge holders (not all, I hasten to add) are seen every day trotting off round town for a couple of hours. Clearly they are fit enough to do that and they are perfectly able to pay to park and follow the parking regulations the rest of us have to but they work the system and apply the well tested I'm alright jack attitude and they don't care about anyone else.

Anyway....what about CAT OWNERS....these beasts $hit where they want to and the majority of owners never clear up after them and they don't care by saying cats are free spirits, as if it is alright for a cat to $hit but it is wrong for a dog to do it.

We had a neighbours cat do its mess, as much as a small dog would do, on our driveway nearly every day. But not anymore, that cat disappeared last summer and has'nt been seen for 6 months. Possibly it was poop scooped.

Holy dog dumps Mal, are you trying to get me up on my soapbox again? It's too early for that but I agree 100%.

I will add to your post, cats never dump in their own garden so they can't be that stupid. But then again, they dump to mark their territory but I don't recall ever handing over my garden to them. Since I've had the dogs they don't come into the back garden but by the front door its their dumping ground. I don't even bother to get it up now because theres more there the following day and theres nothing worse than the smell of cat pee..... it's vile.

The cats being the beasts, not the cat owners...but maybe, jus maybe, I was correct first time!

Good for you Chris....It is gteat to hear that there are some responsible cat owners who ensure their cats always stay within the confines of their own property.

Unfortunatel that is not the case for the majority of cat owners who allow their cats to roam freely, they even install cat flaps so they can come and go as they please. It is these people who are not responsible owners because they cannot possibly know where their cat is or what it is doing at any given time. Out of sight and out of mind I suppose.

We have two cats and they do use our garden for the toilet. In fact, what I have done now is I've filled a belfast sink with compost and they use that rather than using the borders in the garden. We just clear it up each day. Much better than when you are gardening and put your hands in it!

We don't get other people's cats in our garden unless they are completely stupid (cats, not the owners).

To put it simply I prefer birds in my garden. I think one of my dogs do to because as the birds eat the seed out of the feeders she licks it up off the ground below as they spill it. The birds aren't scared of her. I can always tell Polly's dumps on the grass, they are pebble dashed :O)

Our children insist we take Mr Pickles our goldfish with us in the caravan, in his bowel, we do get some strange looks as people pass and see a goldfish on the front unit. We agree a caravaning with pets forum would be a very good and useful idea.
