Hi, we take our dog across the channel regularly but have only ever done so on the short Dover/Calais route. 90 mins in the car is no problem for her. However, because of the ongoing problems at Calais we are considering doing daytime crossings from Portsmouth to Le Havre. What happens to pets on these crossings? Would she be able to come up on deck with us or would she have to be kennelled? As it's a daytime crossing we wouldn't need a cabin just a seat somewhere. All info welcome.

I can only speak about some of the Brittany Ferries routes (Portsmouth - Caen and Poole - Cherbourg) but on these, the dog stays in the car for the whole crossing. We sometimes put our latest addition in the caravan but he seems to be happier in the car. Never had any problems, in fact, we get more stressed about it than the dog does!

We came back last week on the Brittany ferry from St Malo to Portsmouth it takes 8hrs your dog has to stay in the kennels on the car deck or in your car.You can go down to the kennels twice during the trip escorted by a crew member for about 14 hr and exercise them in a small area by the kennels, they are not allowed up on to the passenger deck at all.

Due to the Calais problems we have been taking the Dover Dunkirk route, it only adds about 15 minutes to the ferry crossing, both of our dogs seem to be very laid back and when we get them out to strech their legs, they nomally are just too intersested in sniffing than doing anything else.
But on the Red Funnel line Southampton to cowes there is a dedicated dog area on the upper deck, and its covered.
Hutch.

Brittany Ferries Economie services have dedicated pet friendly cabins adjacent to a small exercise area. Not sure about the 'waste' disposal facilites but sure BF would be happy to tell you. Cabins on day crossings are cheer than at night.
