The door lock on my new ACE supreme Twinstar faied. When I contacted the swift help line and spoke to David Willis he said that Swift were aware of the problem but unfortunatley they did not know which vans the faulty locks were fitted to.

Apparently the fault can accur when the plastic seal that covers the key hole is pushed inside the lock. Then the lock can jam. has anyone had this problem.

If anyone experiences this problem please contact us or your dealer and we will be contacting the supplier direct.

In some instances following a conversation with the supplier, they have sent out a new lock direct to the customer. Only if appropriate and the individual customer has said that they would prefer to fit themselves rather than have to take their van back to the dealer.

The lock on my Abbey 620 was stiff and difficult to use so I contacted Swift and they arranged for me to have a replacement lock which I fitted myself. The caravan's first service isn't due until September so it wasn't worth taking the caravan back to the dealers but Swifts did offer to have the lock fitted. The lock change was easy, I just prised off the red and green plastic screw covers along with the plastic nameplate with a sharp awl and undid four screws, swapped locks and refitted the screws and plastic covers. The replacement lock is fine.

A tempory lock was fitted by a mobile engineer saturday 14 june

2008 at 1700hrs after a number of phone calls to the dealer as they did not have one in stock . At first i was advised by the dealer to DRILL out the red and grean plastic screw covers myself. I refused to do so as i felt this action could invalidate my warranty . The daler then suggested that i drive the van to the dealership to have it fitted . I was rather supprised and angry that the dealer felt it was safe to tow a caravan with a door that had a suspect lock !!! The dealer said 'Oh that will be alright'. todate 20 6 2008 I am still waiting a replacement lock to be fitted....... I wonder what make of caravan i will buy next time kath ?

Is this the Hartal high security lock If so we had a new one on our Bailey, the red and green screw cover pop out with a small screwdiver or stanley knife blade and four screws and its done

Its hardly fair to blame Swift when its an industry wide supplier thats slipped up on things and they have agreed to swap it.Incidentally my new one is getting stiff so I will have to get that sorted.

Why is it unfair to blame Swift? They specified the component and should have tested it during the development phase of the new models.

I had this problem on the way on holiday we stopped at an aire that was used by truckers, the wife took a look at the toilets and decided to use the toilet in the van, she unlocked the van used the toilet came out and locked the van. I remembered a map that I wanted was in the van, got out went to unlock and found it Jammed couldnt unlock it at all. Called the dealer whose reply was to return the van to them and they would fix a new lock. I then explained that I was half an hour from paris on the first day of our holidays, he still maintained that they could do nothing until the van was returned as swift do not have any service agents in france. I was not pleased to say the least. I then phoned the CC travel insurance the lady suggested that I went to our first site as the lock may unjam on the way and if not then the site may know of an enginneer or locksmith that could help. This we did but we arrived half an hour before reception closed, we parked up and SWMBO suggested that we could get in through the bed locker, this was successful, (worth remembering) however it meant that the caravan had to be unlocked at all times throughout the holidays. This was a worry but it just had to be done and we were lucky as we had no theft problems. On our return the van went to the dealers who changed the lock with no problems and explained about the seals and salesmen not removing them. The question I would like to put to swift is did no one think of telling dealers about this seal, or were sales staff simply not bothered, neither exscuse looks good

it was a lady at the dealer that told me about the seal prob (she said it was the second one that they had to do) not swift I suspect it is caused by dealers at the time of PDI when they push the key in the lock rather than removing the seal first.

The Hartel high security lock fitted to your new Baily caravan. You said it was easy to remove the red and green screw covers with a small screwdriver or a sanley knife blade four screws and its done.

When you fitted the new one did you put a small dab of glue on the screw covers. to make it even higher security ? Also with respect you forgot to post your address so all the tea leaves in your area can find your caravan.

Your dealer can arrange for the supplier of the door to come and replace the lock.

Alb

We are not aware of a seal that the dealer has to remove. Can you tell me who the dealer is please so that we can ask them what they mean.

My email address is kpowell@swiftleisure.co.uk

All is clear now !! When I picked up our Challenger the white seal on the lock had a neat keyhole in it. Salesman obviously used the key to break the seal. The lock is stiff, I'll sort it myself, I wouldn't trust the dealer !!!

Hi as regards the door seal . the seal is put over the lock by swift after the caravan has its final check at the factory so as they know if any one has been in van after final check. It should be removed by the dealer when he does PDI .
