Wow. Excellent write-up. The DJI Spark looks like a toy drone... but the video results look incredible.

@ 1.17/1.18 - Is that a Wind Jammer on the car?

The DJI spark is not a toy, neither is my Wraith, but easy to control with the inbuilt systems. The under £ 1oo ar classified as toys but are really trainers, all good fun , my small indoor one is great until the dog trys to snatch it out of the air. :p

Hutch, Sorry, I didn't mean it was a toy, just commenting on how unexpectly small it was! I'm only really familiar with the DJI Phantom, which are much larger by comparison, but (on YouTube at least) have the same image quality.

I used to have one of those indoor micro RC helicopters... they would irk the dog a treat!

CA, no problem, our daft little dog tries to get my small indoor drone out of the air, the bigger outdoor "Wraith" he is now wary of but being 1/2 terrier has no fear of The thing.

I have been so keen to buy a drone, the dji mavic air was on top of the list.

But the restrictions on where they can be flown has dampened my enthusiasm.

My wife and I, plus small dog go on walking holidays, I thought the added photographic capabilities of a Drone would be a benefit.

Always fancied a drone however if one came over my property if I had a gun I would shoot it down! I guess that at the moment it is a fad that will soon be replaced by another fad.
Having said that I have seen some really great shots of wild life in Africa and elsewhere. Sadly the drones tend to scare wild life and if you are on the ground having paid a fortune to get into a game reserve not very nice when some irresponsible person flies a drone too close to a herd and sets them off on a stampede.
Drones are great in the hands of responsible people!

Amazon are going to love you!

Its the photographic part and also the DJI can auto track you, so you can walk along whilst the drone takes a movie of your progress. This year I've dug out my old SLR camera, all year every walk I kept a photo record, bung it on external hard drive, something to look back on over time. A drone adds so much potential, for example taking overhead shots of old buildings, my particular passion.

Think I'm going to get one, see what prices are in the January sales.

Have a look on Youtube at some of the videos, brilliant.

Buckman , be careful there, Even a Drone is classed as an aircraft and under the aviation law causing one to come down ( I cannot recall the correct terminoligy ) is an offence. .

I thought it was also an offence to invade one's privacy. I doubt very much if a doubt would be subject to aviation law as it does have to go through an inspection and get certified. I am guessing tongue in cheek? :cheer:

It is indeed an offence, and such action has resulted in a fines and jail term in the past. The law relating to these things is the same as that which relates to any aircraft. So be aware of the law before you fly or for that matter shoot.

The Aerospate Lama 315b at 40,820 ft. On 21 july 1972 was the highest a helicopter flew.

A good Pub quiz answer.

That looks very similar, drone not controller to my last year's Christmas present from one of my kids.

Great fun as long as it's not windy.

Camera is ok, 720, love mine, you can get spare battery fairly cheaply on amazon

I'm working on the Wife for a Mavic Air.

I've got a feeling that privately owned UAV's or drones are not going to be universally welcomed in public after the travel chaos currently being caused by lunatics allegedly invading the airspace over Gatwick airport with drones.
Time for a very stringent registration and licencing regime to be introduced methinks

There are slightly more stringent set to be introduced next November which I suspect may be brought forward and possible toughened.

Unfortunately Parksy, the lunatics who caused the travel chaos were actually the airport operators and the media, not the irresponsible individuals who foolishly decided to fly a drone in restricted airspace.

However, as you say, situations and overreactions such as this do often invoke unnecessary sanctions.

I would also just like to point out that with the exception of very cheap, disposable toy drones, unless loaded with deliberately hacked software, drones will not fly in restricted airspace anyway, which would suggest that the offenders were either very inexperienced chancers, messing around with a disposable toy, or this was a calculated act of terrorism. News reports suggest the former, but in any case, more stringent regulations that may arise from this would only serve to penalise the responsible genuine enthusiast and hobbyist whilst doing absolutely nothing to prevent any real threat.
