Drumming

Whenever there is a strong wind on site my van drums like mad. I am not sure if it is the roof or sides that maqke the noise. Anybody else bothered with this problem. My caravan is a Abbey GTS Vogue 216. Ken

Hi Kenneth, Not sure if this is the same problem but I have noticed drumming in the car when traveling but only if the window is open slightly. Is it possible you may have a window or a skylight left open. If it happens again try closing them to eliminate the problem.

hope this helps

Thanks Graham for your comment. My problem isn't he same you describe. I am certain it is the alluminium cover on the roof that causes the noise as I noticed that there seems to be wrinkles in covering as if it hadn't been fitted properly. It looks to be quite loose. Ken

Kenneth,

The baggy outer aluminium is normal especially when the outside temperature is very hot as the aluminium expands.....or that is what I was told when I asked about the roof on my Bailey. As for the drumming unfortunately I have no answer for you.

Not that it helps but the roof on my GTS Vogue 416 'sags' nd puddles, but I told it is ok.My previous van also an Abbey had to be reroofed at 3 years old as the roof sagged due to a wooden crossmember breaking as there was a knot in the wood. That said Abbey were great and repaired it without quibble.

Thanks to everyone who replied to my problem. I am still not sure what is making the drumming noise. I think my next thought will be the end panel as sometimes the noise is worse when the wind is coming from different direstions. Who kows. It is one of life's little mysteries. Ken

Just a thought but could it be something under the van that is causing the problem, something by one of the air vents for instance.

Thanks Martin. It isn't just a wee rattle. It is a sound like somebody banging a big bass drum. Ken
